Time to see how mentally strong the Avs are. I don't believe they had any expectation that they could be facing this situation, down 2-0 in the series, both losses with decisive scorelines.
They got their chance to rally there, but Dallas held off a full two minutes of two man advantage with that Avs top line on the ice.
I don't like the Stars at all. They are dirty, but they're also just scrappy, tough and determined.

The Stars went to double OT with the Blues in game 7 last year...then added Pavelski and Perry.
"those guys suck"
uh wat? it was always a terrible take

I dont like the stars but part of me holds a soft spot for them. I grew up going to see them in Minnesota, they gave us Iggy and I was actually happy to see Nieuwendyke win the MVP with them. I wouldn't mind if they came out of the west.

I think what I hate most is that guys like Pavelski and Getzlaf always got their way against us. Dating back a decade or more, they've always come out victorious against the Flames, no matter how many iterations we've thrown at them over the years.
I guess add Perry to that list.
Eventually you want to turn the tables on these asshats and wipe their grins off their stupid faces.
I wish we seized the opportunity to do that.
Instead they will probably retire as Flames killers.
Just burns my bacon.

Might be the difference that makes the difference (between a rd 1 exit and going a few rounds), when the playoff outcomes so often come down to managing the key moments and momentum swings.

Well, now he i s playoff seasoned.

If anything, this makes me feel a tiny bit better about the round 1 exit. The Flames were potentially a game 2 screwjob and a game 4 brainfart away from sweeping these guys.
Maybe our squad isn't as far off from contending as we think?

Don’t forget Gurianov as a rookie that scored 20 too.

Dallas never got enough credit for being a good team. Back in threads when we played them it read like they were Longshot underdogs. Flames played them hard and came up short. A couple key errors and missing arguably our best player and we still almost had them on the ropes. Game six was beyond ugly in the final 40 mins, but damn did they ever come out the right way in the 20.
I guess or hope it was a good learning experience. Looking at Dallas they do a lot of things right and their system can make a lot of teams look off.

Came to this thread expecting to see this.
Unfortunately it doesn't work that way.
Most people acknowledged Dallas was a good team the whole time.
Most also acknowledged Calgary had some strong appearances from many players.
Most importantly, most acknowledged our go to guys were extremely disappointing, again...
And that point does not get to just dissappear because the opposition was good.
They're not suddenly good enough because the teams they keep being no shows against are good teams.

Seugin and Benn got 7 points in the 6 games. And make over $19M.
JG and SM, 6 points, and make just over $12M.
Flames played the right style to shut down Dallas, and it worked, certainly defensively. Colorado doesn’t have that discipline that the Flames did in structure and execution in their own end.
Game 1 solid all around, refs gave Dallas some gifts in Game 2, a stifling performance in Game 3 which frustrated Dallas as it would most teams, as did game 4 which Dallas was fortunate to tie up late if being honest. Game 5 Dallas got an extra point shot through as the difference and Game 6 had the Flames in good position until it slid downhill a bit with some cheapo point goals, then Ward pushes it off a cliff suddenly by ignoring his timeout with a demoralizing goalie pull and move to a backup who clearly is in no mental of physical state to play a elimination game, and threw away the game in the following 7 minutes.

All I know is, that overtime stick break really hurts.

Avalanche were clearly the better team in game 2 and didn't get the bounces. People are spinning narratives much too quickly.

They dominated the first, but Dallas also dominated the second. Then Dallas just shut the door.
The Avs may still come back and win this series, but you can't deny that Dallas's depth and their resilience is showing. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and while there's at least two more games for that this series, the Stars have already shown some proof of what they've got. The Avs may prove to have the same resilience, but they haven't done so yet.
We'll see in games 3 and 4.

The Avs being the better team, but, the Avs PP was 2/8 and had a 2 man advantage for a minute. The Stars PK was a big reason they won.
