Bjugstadt and Murray? Thats a really poor return. Bjugstadts missed a ton of time with a back injury I believe and Murray isn't the Calder/Vezina player he was. I'd expect a far greater return than that.

Holy **** that’s bad for Calgary

Might as well add Jack Johnson coming to us because the Penguins are already making the biggest fleece in history if this went down.

I think Lucic meant they are a close knit team. I could be wrong tho

EDIT: just read the tweet that contained the quote. I think you're right actually. Close to winning.

Hischier has only scratched the surface of his potential. Nathan Mackinnon had 4 seasons of 50-60pt production before he broke out in the 90 pt range. Hischier will at least be a pt/g player in his prime, and if he's working on his 200ft game already-look out!

If we can get him in a package for Gaudreau, we should jump on it. I doubt NJ would do it.

So? Who cares. I was speaking of style and expectation.

Irrelevant comparison. 1st overall versus late first rounder. One has shown a much better development curve and a capacity to score at each level he's played at. One has been thrown in the deep end and played with top end talents, while the other has been brought along slowly and had to earn his way through the system. I look at styles of play and these two players are not even remotely close to each other.

Hischier is hopefully a Couturier level player who can get Selke nominations and put up 70+pts.
Except he doesn't show that type of game. Not even flashes. He doesn't have that offensive instinct to make the jump IMO. He's going to be a good player, but I don't see an offensive threat in him like people had hoped. I think this even goes back to what scouts were saying about him. Solid player.

If the Flames could get Hischier and 7 for Monahan and Gaudreau I think that would be a fantastic deal for the org if the game plan is retool while remaining competitive. It frees up $6M to sign Hall and goes from 26 year old Centre to a guy that won’t be 22 until 2021.

The 7 pick is a great asset as well. Personally I think Gusev and Wood are asking too much.
I think it would be a massive failure. We have a Hischier on the team and we need a gifted offensive talent, preferably in the middle. We don't get that in this deal and we're giving up out two best producers. We're giving up two bonafide first line players and not receiving anything of that ilk in return. The three players coming back scored 103 points this past season. Monahan and Gaudreau put up 106 in a down season for both of them. That's a loss. Unless that draft pick turns into a special player the Flames gave up a first line for some second and third liners. Even if you believe Hischier has upside, he's a downgrade from Monahan, a center we are demanding we upgrade on. Don't like this at all. Way too much risk involved and does not address the needs of the hockey team.

So I do wonder if there is a deal there but it would be bigger than Gaudreau. Devils also had interest in Hanifin in return for a Hall Package was the rumor.

Hanifin
Gaudreau

for

Hischier
+++

Not sure what the plus would need to be from NJ (Probably one of the 1st and a guy like Miles Wood) but I do wonder if something like this gets visited this offseason.

If the Devils deal Hischier that means they're already rebuilding their rebuild. I just don't see them being that desperate. There's no indication at all that the organization is disappointed in Hischier or feels the rebuild has gone completely off the rails.

Yup I don’t see it. Only way it is remotely possible is because Shero was the one pushing for that extension and the owners regret it. I don’t think he is a realistic target but would be the type of target the Flames should consider going after.

Sources tell me that the Flames and Oilers had a deal in principle, trading Lucic, Rieder, and the rights to Talbot for McDavid. I guess at the last second, Holland asked for us to throw in Forbort. Not sure if this will go through now as Tre thinks that's a little rich for just McDavid coming back.

I don't believe the Devils would trade Hischier, but at the very least-if they did, they would definitely want quality young players back. I can see them coveting Hanafin.

If you were offered Wheeler and Schiefele or Marchand and Pasternak for Backlund, Mangipane, Ryan, and a 1st, you wouldn't take it and run? I think Jersey is all over that, and the Flames regret it like crazy in short order.
Your initial premise is just very wrong.

So is your comparison. MacKinnon has always had an incredibly high skill level that it has put him on a different level. He always teased with that ability but wasn't surrounded by talent to let him leverage that ability. Hischier doesn't have that same skill level. If he turns into a MacKinnon level player I will happily fall on my sword. Will you do the same when he doesn't turn into a top 10 player in the league? He's more Backlund than he is MacKinnon.

Duchene 70
Landeskog 65
ROR 64
MacKinnon 63
Stastny 60
E Johnson (D) 39

Hall 93
Hischier 52
Palmieri 44
Butcher (D) 44
Bratt 35
Wood 32

If you want to claim that MacKinnon wasn't surrounded by talent, you need to extend that same courtesy to Hischier.

Year 2 - Iginla in (team lead 59P); Tanguay bounced up to 55P; Stastny out.
Zajac bounced back up to 46p, but Hall only played 33 games.

Ran through the Flames off-season on CapFriendly- tough to gauge salaries with COVID and a flat cap, but here is what I came up with. Go easy on me.

Derek Ryan to LA for a 4th and a 5th (could be any team)
Rittich to Minny for a 2nd and 3rd (again, could be any team in need of a goalie)
Georgiev to Calgary for a 2nd and 3rd and sign for 2 years x 2.125

Sign Hall 7 years x 8.25
Sign Demelo 3 years x 1.9
Sign Logan Shaw 1 year x 0.75
Sign Sbisa 1 year x 0.7

Re-sign Gawdin 1 year x 0.7
Re-sign Kylington 2 years x 0.85
Re-sign Rieder 1 year x 0.7
Re-sign Mangiapane 3 years x 3.25

Hall - Bennett - Tkachuk
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Dube - Backlund - Mangiapane
Lucic - Shaw - Rieder
Gawdin

Hanifin - Andersson
Giordano - Demelo
Valimaki - Sbisa
Kylington - Yeselin

Talbot
Georgiev

Gives the Flames two top tier scoring and a real solid third line as well. Ideally you would want a better d-man to pair with Valimaki- maybe there is somebody better out there you can find for cheap. To me Demelo is kind of like a Brodie lite. Bennett and Backlund can be swapped depending on who is going.

80.9 cap hit including buy outs.

I'm more than ok with the idea of signing a depth dman to the league-minimum as long as it's not Luca Sbisa.

Thanks for putting in the work to actually consider the cap.
