Flames sign Hall for 8.5M per year long term

Flames hire experienced coach and let him decide whether or not to keep Ward as an assistant

Brodie and Hamonic both leave and sign with other Canadian teams

Flames sign a top 4 defenseman (Vatanen is my guess)

I agree on not trading Monahan and drafting Connor Zary. Also believe that Ward and Treliving will be retained.

Not going to predict the exact trades but will predict the following.

1. Treliving and Ward remain
2. Gaudreau is absolutely traded
3. At least one of Monahan, Hanifin, Giordano, Backlund are traded.
4. Taylor Hall is signed but the Flames pay an asset to get his rights
5. A big time goalie is signed either Lehner, Markstrom or Holtby
6. The core pieces are traded for mainly futures which rebuilds the prospect base.

I think the Flames are going to try and shuffle the chairs via free agency and shifting the focus to having a legit top goalie for the first time since Kipper was here. They also add several promising futures that gives the fans hopes there could be some potential elite talent coming down the pipeline in the next couple years.

This is close to what I see happening. I would maybe tweak as follows:

I put Ward at under 50% but still good chance of him coming back.

Rittich gets traded with salary retained with outside chance of a buyout.

Pretty decent likelihood Monahan gets dealt. I agree more likely Gaudreau is traded (could easily be both) but I'll be surprised if return includes a high draft pick. I could see Flames adding a pick to get NHL ready players..

I'm just curious, Rittich is 59-32-17 with 0.908 save % and a 2.82 GAA for his career, is only 27 and makes less than $3 million per.

He's also started over 50% of Flames games the last two seasons....both seasons in which the Flames qualified for the post season.


That does not sound like a buy out candidate to me.

Marty Murray!! Too bad he retired 10 years ago. Could have retired a Flame.
