Yup, Flames just lost another crack at a top coach.
I honestly think Darryl is the best we can get (as an elite coach who would actually want to be here) and we probably won’t because Tre insists on talking to his coach everyday and having his pulse on the team.
I doubt Darryl will take Tre’s call everyday.

We learned that lesson with Jim Playfair. Not a bad coach, obviously since he's still working, but not cut out to be a head coach in the NHL.
Firing someone too quickly can have ramifications as well. Gallant was fired by Florida after a slow start following up on a 107 point season. Reactionary firings don't always help either. I'd prefer someone make a measured and calculated decision rather than being reactionary.

that was the right decision.
Quick decision by the Caps knowing there's a number of good candidates available..
Reardon was inheriting a SC winner, where he was part of all the coaching moves....Also Washington's core is aging-they have one maybe two years left (Holtby is gone for example) so they had to do this before its time to rebuild...

This is now one more team with an opening that the Flames simply aren't in the same stratosphere as for opportunity and competitive viability.
Unfortunately the clock started ticking the second Peters was let go, and the longer this drags out, the more likely it is we end up with another dud behind the bench.

^The scary thing is, this could happen.

Interesting. And yet there seems to be a much higher level of success for coaches making the move from the AHL to the NHL within the same organization, even though they have coached a number of the same players in a different league.
What do you make of it?

**** me, I forgot all about that.
Unproven coach with no playoff success who probably comes cheap. Seems right up Treliving's alley.

I have a strong feeling that Boudreau is coming here. Just a gut instinct.

Here is where I would argue that Treliving's pattern of quickly addressing past mistakes would suggest that a different tack should be expected this time around. For all his faults, he is sure not one to keep hammering away at that damn square peg in an effort to get it into the round hole.

The assistant’s role is different than the head coach. I think often the access to the head coach is somewhat limited and the assistant becomes the communication channel and often a friendlier voice to the players. So it could be hard making that transition to the head guy who needs to be more of the bad cop with the same group. So I suppose transitioning from the farm team head coach wouldn’t be as awkward.

Apart from the Brouwer gaffe followed by the Neal gaffe. He did try different when we went with Peters after Gully so will be interesting to see what direction he goes this time.

Yeah, that sounds good. On a tangentially related note, it is in retrospect really unfortunate that the Vancouver Canucks would not grant Treliving permission to interview Travis Green when he was on his coach search in 2016. Green is looking like a terrific NHL head coach.

Heck, the Caps didn’t accept the status quo after winning the cup!

I really don't think the poor coach hirings have been Trelivings fault
It's pretty clear there's been a mandate from higher ups to cheap out on the coaches, and it's gone about as expected
It's time the Flames go all in on an experienced coach and I guarantee Treliving feels the same way
