If you believe that Tkachuk is truly a rat, then you've bought into some false media fiction/hoopla that is merely their easy way of funneling their disdain for the Flames without having to openly admit they dislike the team. It's somehow been made acceptable to hate on Tkachuk even though the actual evidence of that doesn't add up to the reputation (but I think is great for the team cause he gets under everyone's skin regardless).
exactly... my response to this absurd post. It is a given that Tkachuk plays close if not over the edge. It does not mean that anyone who thinks so hates the Flames.
If Chucky is not a term of endearment for the Flames very own rat then I have completely missed the narrative.
Maybe a poll: Is Tkachuk a rat like player in the mold/tradition of Ken Linesman, Ryan Kessler, Corey Perry, Bobby Clarke and Brad Marchand?
I would way rather have Tkachuk on his 3 year bridge than the 5 year deal he was looking for.
Players can sign an extension a year out of their deal expiring. Maybe the right call is to keep Gio as captain next year then sign Tkachuk to a 6-8 year deal next summer and formally give him the C at that time?
Dubious claim based on nothing. Longest serving captain in flames history held out twice and gave the team exactly 0 hometown discounts.
Iginla didnt hold out before he established himself as a star player. Not a good comparison. You want a comparison think nieuwendyk. Held out in 1995, and then traded to Dallas
Iginla didnt hold out before he established himself as a star player...
Wrong.
Iginla held out at the beginning of the 1999-2000 season: after three years on his rookie deal, as an RFA signing his second contract. This was two full years before he broke out and won the Art Ross. Tkachuk was arguably a bigger star (however that is quantified) coming off of his ELC than was Iginla.

How is that a good comparison? Tkachuk didn't hold out. Iginla is a much more extreme version of what Tkachuk did which should serve as an example that the team is more than capable of separating the business side from the hockey side.
Trying to compare what Nieuwendyk did to what Tkachuk did, a pretty run of the mill late summer signing, is such an out to lunch comparison that it is laughable. Perhaps you do not have a very good memory of that or weren't alive, I don't know, but it is completely off base.
It keeps giving me a different result every time I click it, but he starts talking about it at 6:38.
Unfortunately, I think he was talking about saving Michael Frolik, so that didn't age too well LOL. If you could jettison Frolik to Buffalo for a 4th in September and sign Chucky for 6 years or something, I think you'd take that every time.

Wow you get excited easily. What’s laughable is using iginla as a comparison for Tkachuk. Not even close. Tkachuk listens to daddy.

I stand corrected on that. However Tkachuk is really overrated around here. Guy has done nothing here yet
Until the get Tkachuk to tone down his act a bit he won't get the C. His style is great but he is putting himself in such a position that so many guys are targeting him all the time and getting him off his game.
