Crazy, speculative, unsourced theory: Treliving has not addressed the media yet because he will also have a trade to announce on Monday.

No idea how a trade would work other than some cap would obviously have to be retained, but I really don't mind the idea of the Flames picking up Fleury (assuming he truly had no knowledge that Walsh was going to do this.) and running with him and Parsons as the backup and mentor him and the other goaltenders in the system for a couple years.
Yes I picked Parsons on purpose. He clearly has the natural skill to be a very good pro as well as Wolf and Zag etc. and having someone like MAF who has all the experience you could ask for to help the kids along could pay off long term.
No clue of how Rittich would fit in that. Just spitballing.

So you're okay with $7.25M for another Mikael Backlund?

Spitballing here;
Hanafin for Matt Murray?
Pens LH D looks like it could use some improvement. Both teams dealing from a position of strength.

Brutal for Calgary.
Murray hasn't been the same since he lost MAF and in particular really struggled this year.
If PIT is really moving on from him, they won't get a package involving a player like Hanifin for him.

Maybe just me, and I'm not the biggest Hanifin fan either, but I wouldn't trade him for anything less than a mid first round pick, or even a Hamonic to Calgary return which was a 1st and two 2nds. He's a proven top 4 defenseman who is still pretty young and on a solid contract.
I would not trade that type of package for Matt Murray right now, especially coming off his worst season as a pro.

There won’t be any trades until after the season is over and the dust settles, making a trade right now seems very reactive and not possible.

Fourth Period speculating Flames may try and trade for Hall's rights before free agency begins.

2 time cup winning G at 26 years old. They won’t give him away.
Sure, he had a bad year, but what goalie doesn’t that apply to? Price has had his off seasons, Bobrovsky, Holtby, MAF, Quick, etc etc.....

He is 21 and has a career ppg average of 0.65 in over 200 games. I think there is definitely more offensive upside there and he will top out as a much better player than Monahan.
It would be the type of retool move I would love the Flames to make similar to the Hamilton one. Adding some core players that are younger than the ones you are sending out.

If Treliving decides to just re-tool i.e. move Gaudreau and keep Monahan, Gio (re-sign Brodie) and other lesser core pieces, the only #1 Center that's realistically available would be Kopitar. I don't see anything else out there that would make sense for the other team or be a clear upgrade on Monahan.
If the idea is to re-tool and still "go for it" then Tre needs to make a move like that or the team is just spinning it's wheels.

I'm hoping there's some pressure on Florida to cut costs and we go after Barkov. No idea how to make it work, but I can hope.

Fixed.
If the Flames call Florida asking about Barkov, I bet the conversation starts with Tkachuk.

I'd argue that in Hall's case, it'll be a decent value contract until he hits about 34.
So on a 7 year deal, we're looking at perhaps a sour two seasons - but the thing about players in this echelon is that they age differently. So while the boots may not go, the mind is still there and smart plays still happen. Look at Lucic - and Hall is better player than that. Looch still thinks the game well and his game is loaded with smart, small plays.
Taylor Hall to Calgary would be a straight up "win" for this organization when you look at the move by itself.
From there on though, Tree has work to do - but if Hall does want to come here, you take the quick win and make it happen. I'd consider it a good first step this off-season.

Well that wouldn't help the salary reduction for Florida. Was thinking more along the lines of high picks and prospects. Again, only could happen if the rumors of Florida needing to shed salary have any truth

Not only that, there will 25 teams lining up for a bidding war.
Plus it makes no sense for Florida to trade him even if they're cutting costs. He's on a great contract.

Florida doesn't even have a GM at the moment, and the guy they do hire probably wants to take stock of what he's got before making a major trade.
