Goodness. I know the Flames have had interest in MAF before. I would add to Rittich to get him.

I imagine there's something to this. Trying to spark a trade and get Fleury away from Deboer. For Fleury to okay this during the playoffs probably speaks to how pissed off he is right now.
He'd effectively be a cap-dump, as Vegas would be making the move to sign Lehner long-term.
...I'd take MAF as a cap-dump.

not re-signing Hamonic and Talbot would get the Flames 95% of the way there

I'm sure you would, but what entices other teams to acquire Rittich after the season he had? Pretty sure he would clear waivers at this point,

Allan Walsh is so obnoxious. Yea, how dare DeBoer start the better of his two goalies!

Rittich would probably have value in the middle of the season when other backups are injured.
As for MAF, I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole. In fact, I would stay away from any goalie over 30.

And how selfish do you have to be to do that right before a playoff game? Right before the first game of a series.

Per Friedman, Florida has interviewed Kevin Weekes to be its new GM.
I think that would be a great hire. Weekes is one of my favourite analysts and he would be the first black GM in NHL history.

Also per Friedman, Arizona and OEL are a situation to watch.
If we aren't rebuilding, I'm all over that.
To ARZ: Noah Hanifin, Oliver Kylington
To CGY: Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Does that get it done? Hanifin's contract is significantly better than OEL's, but Tree and Maloney have experience with OEL.
OEL, Giordano, and Valimaki becomes our LHD next season.
Then go out and sign Taylor Hall, while trading Johnny for a high pick (NJD's 7th) or a package including a centre prospect.
Mangiapane - Backlund - Tkachuk
Hall - Bennett - Lindholm
Dube - Monahan - ?
Lucic - Ryan - ?
Ekman-Larsson - Andersson
Giordano - ?
Valimaki - ?
?
Rittich
Assuming Hall is 7.75M-8M, and Mangiapane is done on a short deal (2-2.5), that will leave somewhere around $10M to fill out the remainder of the roster. If you need more cap-space, I'd imagine you could find a new home for Ryan.
That's the type of summer I'm hoping for if it's not a rebuild and it changes the look of the team significantly - and I think it would be our Weber for Subban trade (with us being Montreal).
...and my fandom is back to being excited about all the potential outcomes this off-season.

OEL isn't worth it at all. His contract isn't great. AZ had to overpay to keep him and he's past his best years.

OEL has never been nearly as good as Weber, though.

Agree with Scorp. OEL has a very high cap hit. Lots of PP time gives him a decent amount of points.
If the Flames have somebody in mind for PP1, then they are better served to find a way to keep Brodie

It's a young man's game and OEL is getting old. I wouldn't trade two good, young assets to aquire him.

..yes, I see. After looking into OEL pretty much every measurable stat paints a picture of Hanifin > OEL
....well then, okay...about that trade...
Also Lebrun said Hall sounds like he's going to prioritize stability and opportunity to win...so uh...!@#$

Something has been ringing in my ear all along that Hall isn't going to sign here, and we've all been just hyping it up for nothing. Just seems too easy.

We've just never had a player of that level choose Calgary as a free agent. Not once.
The closest we came was Scott Niedermayer, who ultimately chose Anaheim.
Now that I think of it - the only reason why Nieds would have even been thinking about signing here was because of Darryl Sutter, Jarome Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff - holy hell do we need to fix our goaltending and our coaching position. They're actual draws for the organization. If you have a top end goalie, you can win on any given night thanks to them. If you have a top end coach, your team will be competitive all year long.
Get a freaking goalie and coach that are worth a damn. Nothing will ever come of this team until they nail both of those positions.

Do you remember Jay Bouwmeester? The all-star defenseman who was the best Free Agent that off-season?
Doesn't happen often but it has happened recently.
