Yea, I'm thinking it's definitely a coincidence. I highly doubt that Biden or his speech writers have even heard of Jack Layton, let alone be familiar with one of his speeches.

It’s not like those are unique concepts. Layton didn’t invent them.
If that’s the worst thing the detractors are going to bring out, along with Trump on some bizarre he moved so he wasn’t born there birthed non-sense, I’d say Biden had a slam dunk address.

I think the issue is that Biden has a past with plagiarism. Again, I think it's nonsense, but I can absolutely see Fox and Co. pushing that narrative.

They're not even the same wording. That's arguably the dumbest story anyone's written this whole election cycle.

I can't tell you who the first person in the world to ever use the "X is better than Y" structure in a political speech was, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Jack Layton in 2011.

I understand but even the last time it was a little blown out of proportion given every other time he gave the speech he attributed the words correctly but I do understand. But this is a major stretch and does the Trump campaign really want to go there a few short years after Melania’s speech?
Of course the other thing nowadays (including Melania of course) is these are speech writer mistakes more than anything else.

I long for the day when we could be critical of all politicians. No one is perfect and it is through debate that we learn and become better.
Alas, as you stated the most important thing in the world is defeating Trump and 100% of focus should be on that.

Its frightening that the polls are spinning and tightening like they are. Have American's looked at the teaming of Biden and Harris and not liked it? Are the pictures of rioting and run away covid having an effect and American's don't have faith that Biden and Harris can't handled it?
I've said that any election is decided by less then 10% of the voters in the undecided block.
Both parties are really train wrecks. I hate Trump, he needs to be fired (into orbit). But I'm not really sold on Biden as the strong leader that they need down there to fix the damage done.
I'd be voting for Xerg the intergalactic despot from Earth 312

They aren't really tightening. Biden is pretty consistently up around 8 pts nationally, and leading by a consistent margin in most swing states.

Lol @ Kanye.

Kanye West’s troubled and often disarrayed presidential campaign hit a series of setbacks this week as the rapper’s Birthday Party failed to qualify for the ballot in West Virginia and Wisconsin and, more importantly, missed a crucial Federal Election Commission deadline.
The West Virginia Secretary of State’s office revealed Friday that West’s campaign submitted markedly more than the 7,144 signatures need from registered voters to certify for the ballot. However, upon closer inspection, of the 15,000 signatures the campaign delivered, only 6,383 were confirmed and registered West Virginia voters, the Associated Press reported, making West ineligible for the state’s ballot.
The Birthday Party will also be left off Wisconsin’s ballot after the state’s bipartisan Elections Commission ruled that West’s campaign missed the August 4th, 5 p.m. deadline to file the necessary paperwork by mere minutes, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
|
Quote:
Despite Republicans’ best efforts to keep West in the race as a spoiler, the Birthday Party — which reportedly hired GOP operatives Let Voters Decide — missed perhaps its most important deadline on Thursday when the campaign failed to file a financial report stating if West had raised or spent $100,000 on his campaign; the FEC told TMZ that, as of Saturday, they had not received the paperwork that was due August 20th.

It's not overly surprising that some polls (such as Trump approval ratings) are regressing back to the mean. Even if the COVID surge and riots hadn't calmed down over the last few weeks, the stamina of outrage was never going to last until November. I doubt Harris is playing a large part in this overall. In the end, it seems to be important to 'peak' at the right time before an election. For example, Comey's announcement about the Clinton investigation a few days before the 2016 election was perfect timing for Trump to peak.

I do agree that the majority of people who will ultimately vote have essentially already decided who they will vote for. But I interpret the 'deciding block' differently. I would argue the 44.5% of eligible voters who did not turn out to vote in 2016, combined with those who are not regular voters but did because they were specially motivated by their chosen candidate, play a much larger role in the election result.

The news that the race is tightening is good even if it’s wrong. Voter apathy and another round of “it’s in the bag I’ll stay home” is one of the ways trump can legally win a second term. Keep telling people it’s close so that come November they get their asses out and vote (or mail those ballots in a month early)

Yeah, similarly all of the pretty blatant voter suppression tactics is only going to make people more careful to make sure that they're registered to vote, more likely to vote early, and more prepared to stand in line for hours if necessary. There are a bunch of things going on that should make voters not take their vote lightly.

To clarify, I'm laughing more at his failing campaign and the GOP's desperate, bumbling attempt to try and get him on the ballot. The fact that he even made it on in 5 states is beyond ridiculous. 10 years ago, could anyone imagine all of the bats**t crazy crap we've witnessed during this administration and election cycle? The best screenwriters in Hollywood couldn't come up with anything this insane. America is a mess.

Also, it's called the "Birthday Party". That'd be pretty clever, if we were dealing with a group of 9 year olds.
