Tkachuk - Lindholm - Dubé
Bennett - Monahan - Mangiapane
Lucic -

Hanifin - Andersson
Valimaki -
Kylington -

I think this would be a decent start-up core (and Lucic) with a significant gutting.

The Flames win the series with Markstrom probably. Even with the inconsistent and pedestrian efforts up front. I make him a solid offer.

That also tells you a lot about the Canucks and how many warts Mr. M is concealing over there. But you need that kind of goaltender.

Talbot concealed many problems for the first 5 games of our series.

Then showed in game 6 goaltending is one of those problems.

The way the skaters played to start the game is how they can play when their D are activated and helping keep pucks going in the right direction.

The other games they played too conservative and sat back on their laurels making bad breakout passes and letting Dallas get out of their zone too easily.

This to me starts with coaching.

Coaching, goaltending and center are our biggest areas of need IMO (aside from needing more RH shots in the lineup).

h dear, what mess this franchise is in.

first of all Monohan has to go, 2 assists this series? really? He was beyond awful yet again in the playoffs, instead of being a difference maker which your #1 centre should be he was a complete liability everytime he was on the ice. Without Gaudreau hes a 15 goal guy at best. His time is up, enough is enough.

You gotta at least see what you can get for Gaudreau you have to think hes as good as gone as soon as his contract is up anyway do any of you see him re signing long term here? I sure dont. Gaudreau can be a really exciting player and has a lot of talent but hes horrific in big games and in the playoffs. Plus hes the guy that can fetch you some serious assets. Both of these guys have completely wore out their welcome here, time to move on from these guys.

Treliving- The will keep him because he was just re upped and our owners are cheap, but he should lose his job too. Brutal head coach hirings, horrible Free agent signings and he has traded away so many draft picks.

Geoff Ward- Zero chance he will be our head coach next year, I think Ward is a good assistant coach and I think he did a decent job this year but I think our entire coaching staff needs to be let go. We need a completely different system and voice all around. Again our owners are cheap and never spend money on coaches so our idea of this team getting a Gallant, Laviolette type coach is a freaking pipe dream, plus why would either of these guys want this job? Whats even remotely enticing about coaching the Calgary Flames at this point?

This team is unbelievably frustrating to cheer for, Im hoping for some serious changes this off season, If i have to sit through another year of a Monny JG first line I wont watch

I just don't see why that roster would do any better than the current roster.

Just go full rebuild in this case.

Maybe you should have said "regular season goals" then?

And hey, yippee, Monahan had a more consistent start to his career than other '13 draft picks.

I wonder what it looks like if you compare Monahan and MacKinnon over the last 2, 3, or 4 years? And how long are their totals good for? Monahan has played 16 more regular season games and has 4 more regular season goals, MacKinnon is going to pass him within a season.

Monahan is a good player and a consistent 20+ goal scorer since his was drafted. But acting like his career goal totals mean anything without context is pretty silly, considering MacKinnon and Barkov blow him out of the water with total point production and MacKinnon is all-world and Monahan is.... a good player.

No roster players for Gaudreau and Gio.

I feel if you’re trading for picks and prospects you’re going full rebuild, in which case why sign Hall?

I think that roster would have beaten Dallas. You might not like Hall but he would give you more than Gaudreau. The group up from Stockton would be better than Rinaldo, Rieder, Jankowski etc. It's time to give those player a chance to show what they can do. As far as I'm concerned, Gaudreau is a cancer you need to get rid of. I've never liked him. I keep hearing we need a Centre who drives the play. So what does Gaudreau do; stand in the slot and wait for a pass?

He's actually a 22 goal guy at least without gaudreau, as he showed in his season without gaudreau.

Let’s be real here. Is there any chance that Treliving can go to his bosses and say “we won the west 2 years ago, and made the playoffs this year, and outside of Gio our best players are 27 or younger. I think we need to tear this thing down to the studs and hope I can build it back up to be better”

The move and message is going to be that there are some great pieces here but it is time to make some drastic change. 2 years ago they decided that a big change was needed and it was clear to pretty much everyone that change was going to be moving Dougie Hamilton. This year it is pretty clear if they failed the guy that moves is Johnny Gaudreau. I think Sean Monahan has also worked his way into that discussion.

I think Treliving could target some high end picks and prospects with them but I also think the game plan is to be a playoff team again next year so they are going to be looking to add talent to help them win now as well. I could see hockey trades foe both players or going to the free agent market to fill some holes.

I would be shocked to hear about this team heading towards a tankbuild

This is a terrible off-season to spark a re-build by trading established assets for futures:
1. Uncertainty about the form of upcoming season(s)
2. Expansion draft looming
3. Flat cap

That said, I think you take at least one big step in the re-build direction by moving at least one of Gaudreau/Monahan, even if the return sucks. I'm more interested to see Monahan w/o Gaudreau than the other way around, but I can understand people who see it the other way. August 2020: Monahan 2G 8P; Gaudreau 4G 7P.

Explore moving every other player, but I think next trade deadline and off-season 2021 will offer far more interesting opportunities to re-shape the roster or go scorched earth.

Don't touch any UFAs (aside from a D or 2) and keep cap space available - opportunity to maximize returns at TDL (or earlier)

The only way for the Flames to solve the decade-long goaltending issue is to hope that Dustin Wolf turns out to be the next MAF.

These can both be positives if handled correctly.

I fully expect that we sign some older goalie to a giant, long-term contract.

Then Wolf turns into a stud but the other contract totally hampers our ability to put a good team in front of him.

That would be a very Flames things to do.

I think the players on this team are really good, likable people and its a shame that things didn't work out. There was so much promise. That said, it is time to close this chapter and begin the arduous task of beginning another.

I think the re-tool v. re-build question depends on what type of market there is for Monahan, Gaudreau and Giordano (though, at his cap hit, I don't think Giordano has any value whatsoever anymore). Its possible that Gaudreau (especially) and Monahan may have decent value due to their relatively low cap hits. They might be quite attractive to a team that disappointed this year and is desperate to take the next step or to maximize a shrinking window (Buffalo, Toronto, Washington, maybe Philly if they flounder in the playoffs, etc.) If so, move them for the best prospects you can.

However, if the market stinks, then I think you have to look at some type of re-tool (trying to sign Hall, trying to make a hockey trade, etc.)

They're in a very difficult position. Uncertain times ahead. Unfortunately, we're probably looking at three or four lean years ahead, at the very least. That's a pretty bitter pill to swallow for Flames fans who have already endured 30 years of nearly uninterrupted disappointment.

Wolf is what, 3-4 years away from backing up in the NHL? 5-6 years till he could be a bonafide starter?
