Francis is a clown, full stop.... but he's not wrong in his assessment of Gaudreau.

Francis is generally nothing but a contrarian.
His take on Ward is joke. "These players love him", well "these players" suck.
So Ward is fitting into the corporate culture of mediocrity? Great.
This wonky year will actually give me the opportunity to look at their off-season, judge it and then cancel my season tickets if they double down on their current mediocrity.
Rare opportunity.

As per the norm for Francis, he's only right when he's making obvious conclusions that take no actual insight to reach. Everyone and their dog knows that Gaudreau has to be traded and had a rough go of things in this series.
When it comes to making observations that aren't low hanging fruit, the guy is way more often than not completely out to lunch and full of awful takes. There's no pattern to his thought process or work put into informing the things he says, he just takes the contrarion stance on everything.
Dude is a hack who should have stayed on the Jack FM morning show where he belongs.

Yeah, they hated Hartley who was tough on them. They loved Gulutzan and Ward who tucked them into bed and read them stories.
Honestly, if Ward is back... this organization is even worse than I think, and I think they are the Bengals...

Francis should stick to his restaurant and his charity work, the only two things he's actually good at.

Francis also mentioned that the 6.75 million dollar cap hit is basically a cap dump. I want Gaudreau gone but surely that won't be the reason he can't be traded.

Did you notice in the post game interviews Ward said Talbot had equipment problems that’s why he was pulled and went to the room. He didn’t come back in the net in the 2nd because of the issue and went back in in the 3rd cause it was fixed.
Then Talbot says he deserved to be pulled and went to the room to cool off cause he was so emotional and didn’t want his teammates to see it on the bench.
Ward trying to save face for his goalie or save his job?

Ward did not say that equipment problems were why he was pulled.
He said he wanted to put him back in but couldn't

Francis is so out to lunch. Regardless of your opinion of Gaudreau his contract is a bargain for his offensive production relative to a lot of other forwards getting paid more money.
While we are piling on the team and organization why can't this city do better than Francis when it comes to Flames media coverage? Why does he have to be the guy covering the team for Western Canada on a western and national level? It's like the organizational culture of failure and mediocrity has extended to the people allowed to cover the team. Erick Francis should not be the main media person for the Calgary Flames. He's not a real hockey person as his hockey and general sports knowledge is more at the level of blogger like Staples. We make fun of Edmonton media but Francis is equally as embarrassing for the Flames.

Yes he is. Gaudreau was not a passenger at all, this is just Francis stirring the drink when it comes to small skilled players which is his history. Go look back at what he wrote in the past about Fleury and you will see similiar writeups. Whenever Calgary has a big ticket player you can bet Eric Francis will start trying to drive him out of town. The guy is Larry Brooks North.

Even then that kind of feels like passing the buck to Talbot, and not taking responsibility for the decision.
Rittich was in the game for 16 minutes before the end of the period and there was a 8 minute stretch between goal 5 and goal 6.
There should have been more than enough time to get Talbot back in the game if that was really Ward's intention.
He made a bad decision to pull Talbot and put in Rittich who hadn't seen game action in months. He should have fallen on that sword, acknowledged it was his mistake, and moved on.

All he said was he wanted to out him back in earlier but the trainer said he had an equipment issue. Talbot likely was pissed, smashed his sticks, and took his gear off.
What's the coach gonna do when a guy isn't on the bench
Pull was a bad call IMO but there is a lot of false info being spread about Wards comments

Imagine pulling the goalie before taking a timeout.

That's the thing. Ward panicked.
Don't let the equipment comment cloud the issue here.
Actually, there are two issues here: the goaltending was awful; and Ward completely panicked and destroyed the team's energy

Fair enough I must have heard the first part of him pulling him cause of the equipment wrong.
Your assessment makes a lot of sense.

Gaudreau sucked this playoffs. And he was a passenger every single time he was in his own end. And he can't play big boy playoff hockey. Those are all facts.
Whether its obvious or not its still true.
And whether its Francis saying it or not its still true.

Which player would be worth more in a trade?

Weird how good Monahan's stats look when you just remove his name from the row...
Lots of haters round these parts! I would try to keep Monahan but I'm pretty fed up with the roster at this point too so if someone is offering a good haul I would take it.

He was consistently the only top 6 forward backchecking.
The idea that because a 5'6" player isn't going to go to the 'dirty areas' in the corners and playing dump and chase hockey in the playoffs is so ludicrous I don't even know where to begin.
I'm truly going to hate when Gaudreau is traded for an underwhelming returns and proceeds to put up a PPG+ on his new team. I'll be happy for him, but I'll be a miserable Flames fan.
