EXACTLY. Team isn't good enough. So this core started with Hiller and Ramo, went to Elliot and Johnson, to Smith, to Talbot and Rittich?? All resulting in the exact same result, yet we want to blame goaltending????? This core and team needs a massive overhaul. Playoff flakes, I hope it starts with Monahan.

This is exactly where I stand. Look, I'm not opposed to moving Gaudreau - and maybe you have to. But moving him likely leaves you in the same spot or marginally improves the team.

You can win the Cup with Monahan as your #1 C, but there's maybe five wingers in the league good enough to make up for his lackluster two-way play. (Ovechkin, Panarin, Kucherov, Stone come to mind).

Conversely, there's probably 20 centres in the league good enough defensively to carry Gaudreau to a Cup. Add in a centre who can actually transition the puck and Gaudreau is touching 1.25 points-per-game easily.

Horribly difficult spot for the Flames to be in which is crushing as a fan.
