Ha ha. How does Treliving know he's a Calgarian now?

I think stability is exactly what this franchise needs so I’m glad they extended him.

Was he already in the last year of his deal? Feels like he just signed an extension recently.

One playoff win in four years.
He has improved the team but I think a wait and see position should have been taken.

Great GM who has raised this franchise from mediocre to excellent on many, many fronts. Drafting, coaching, management, scouting, it goes on and on. The Flames are now a really solid franchise. The on ice success will follow (it doesn't come first)

Exactly my sentiments!
He has methodically rebuilt the franchise at every level. He even has groomed some Assistant GMs that will soon be poached by other teams to be GMs.
Its only a matter of time...

I would also like to add that many of the moves we blamed Tre for early in his tenure here were likely due to Burke's authority IMO(ie.the Brouwer signing). No proof, just my feeling-I feel we're lucky to have him here.

There is no doubt Treliving has a similar belief that big, mean, enforcer type players are valuable. Chasing Reeves, and trading for Lucic were moves made post-Burke.

For sure. But it isn't just a black and white issue (enforcers=big, big=good). It's a question of a) how important is it to you?, and b) (more importantly) what are your team's strengths and weaknesses?
I think it's fair to say that Treliving puts less emphasis on it than Burke did. At the same time, it's also fair to say that the Flames are among the smallest, softest, and easiest to play against teams in the NHL. And that being the case, recognizing that they need to improve on that front is something that even moderates can agree on (you don't need to be a big=good guy to agree on that).

Unless they make clear and obvious errors consistently, GMs need time to shape a team, and patience from ownership to build out their vision, so I'm very happy the Flames did the right thing here. Treliving's done a great job in Calgary when the entire body of work is considered.

Anyone else having a strong sense of buyer's remorse now? It hasn't even been 10 months since this announcement, and I really don't trust him to make the necessary moves to get this franchise to be for once, a team that actually can be competitive in the playoffs. His big busts and mistakes (coaching, Hamonic, goaltending, lack of 1st round + early round picks, and lack of best players being good in playoffs) have led to this travesty of a roster up to this point.

The Flames would just pick somebody worse. As bad as BT's mistakes have been, he's a virtual certainty to be at least the second best GM this organization has ever had.

Not a case of “hindsight is 20/20“.... everyone who’s watched hockey over the last 10 years+ knew who the best available coach was.

Hell of a resume.
- no success
- no prospect base
- no goalie
- no coach
I mean...what the hell has he been doing for 6 years? He inherited all the key cogs to last years big regular season.

What he needed to do:
Keep Hartley
Get a goalie
Not dip into free agency, ever
