The 2nd period is going to need an even better effort. Bring it boys! Everyone looks dialled in.

Best period in a long time.
Flames activating the defense is taking a page out of Dallas' ability to bring the defense deep into the offensive zone

What a period from Johnny! He was flying. Made a typically great pass to Monahan early, a perfect sneaky intentional bank shot for the goal, and 2 beauty wraparound attempts with speed and confidence he hasn't shown for a while. Love it!

Here's the icing:
People talk about penalties when they refer to game management, but this is a perfect example. Flames up 3-0 early and the Stars clearly ice it late with a minute left. They let it slide... because?

It's a ruse. Nobody tells the camera what they plan to do and then go out and do that exact thing. Johnny's going for wraparounds all night long now.

Amazing by the Flames. Up by two and the Stars are fortunate it’s only two which is remarkable. Best period by the Flames in five months.

Monster period for Brodie, but Hanifin did a lot of good little things this period too. There were times this year I thought Hanifin looked out of his depth, but he's been really solid through the playoffs here imho.
Johnny breathing air tonight, finally.

He's been great since that Gulutzan experiment ended. Damn those wasted years.
But tonight he's been something else.

So, the top d-man (since Gio's cool down) and the top forward.
Good sign.
