THIS!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!
I even make sure I include my general neighborhood to pro-actively restrict those situations.
I *do* still watch both when I'm looking for goods, but preferentially sell on FB.

I have the bestest luck on my Community Facebook Buy and sell page. There's no haggling or low balling and little questions. You post something (needs to be decent things... no rusted patio furniture or termite infested playsets... although if you post it for free, someone will likely take it) and the only thing that is posted is "I'll take it!"

I get a lot of “is it still available?” then no response after i say it is. This is more often on facebook marketplace than kijiji but happens on both.
Anybody else get this?

I have most definitely sent some ghost messages with the default "is this available"

I've done that too, if there's a huge selection of something I want and need to widdle it down quickly. There's simply too many people on kijiji that don't remove ads when something sells.
I get the frustration if you're someone who updates and therefore if the ad is up it's available, but far too many don't. However, I usually try to respond to every message I get, so if someone says it's available but I'm still looking and narrowing down I'll usually say "thanks, just making a decision on a few, will let you know".
And when I buy something I'll always respond and let them know I grabbed something else.

But just a word of advice that's easy as pie and saves buyer and seller from "is this available" - If you're someone that takes ads down as soon as the item sells just put "If this ad is up the item is still available" in all your ads.
It's become very standard for responsible sellers. Everyone loves that and everyone wins.

Kijiji came through in a big way for me this year - I posted in mid-July that I was looking to pick up a golf membership for the rest of the season. A week later I had a guy reach out to me who had a season-ending injury and I grabbed his membership at a discount!

Everybody who posts regularly on Kijiji should really include some boiler plate comments to keep things clear.
There are some valid reasons to ask if it’s still available; you kind of don’t know if somebody is on the way to pick it up or not. Depends on the seller. If the seller didn’t put that in the ad, you don’t know what their philosophy is towards holding an item for a potential buyer or whatever.

Bought and sold a few guitars this summer, only bad experience was a guy selling a fender acoustic that...well quite simply I *know* he saw my FB messages offering to pay him his asking price, set up a meet time, etc. and then just let it languish for a couple days.
Ended up getting a better deal on a nicer guitar in the end with a different seller, but #### me it's annoying to be more or less ready to make a deal and just getting radio silence for 48 hours.

I thought for sure I was getting set up...guy wanted an etransfer up front, wasn't actually in Calgary but his father in law would meet me in a garage in the NE, had a strange writing style indicative of an awkward Google translation, took a much lower price than asking. All good though. Picked the stuff up from his father in law, gave him cash, stuff was legit. I don't get it some times.

People from Airdrie and Chestermere shouldn't be allowed to post items on Kijiji.

They should have to pay a toll to access Calgary's Kijiji network.

Yeah it's annoying when I am searching under Calgary and I get items from not Calgary. Unless I am dumb I cannot figure out to search a set distance from my house on Kijiji. I can set a search distance from Calgary but that's from the centre of Calgary which is useless to me.

Agreed. I won’t even drive to the other end of my town to get a Kijiji item anymore. When I was in Calgary I wouldn’t leave my quadrant.

This is right up there with people from Clareshome posting in Calgary for sale groups. Great price but I'll be giving up the savings by going all the way to Clareshome just to look at the item. Hard Pass.

Kjiji is so much better than any of the alternatives we have in America.
I hope you are all counting your blessings.

^^Yes. There is a ton of entitlement in this forum. I have done well on Kijiji, and I have absolutely no expectations. Really my only consideration is safety and security. If you want full service, go to the Bay or buy it on Amazon.

I'm the same way. Unless it is some sort of exceptional deal or a hard to find item I am not venturing far from home to make a purchase. On the flip side, my significant other will drive to the other end of the city and waste an hour or two to pick up some sort of $5 piece of junk.
