Fair argument but I like his contract and think he can be a solid complimentary top 6 player.

That gio contract is going to be horrific over the next 5 years. Took a step back during this regular season but now is barely replacement level the whole play in/ playoffs. What bull#### from "our captain".
C should go to Tkachuk next year.

We can win game 6 but Johnny needs to have his minutes limited. This could also work to create trade demand. I like win-win scenarios.

Swapping out gaudreau for hall + whatever we get for johnny could be transformative for this club.

I see the exact opposite. I think Johnny is trying too much on his own and Lindy has been ok. Monahan has been downright terrible. Handles the puck like a grenade, soft along the boards, staying on the perimeter instead of in front of the net. I can't count the number of times in the offensive zone JG and Lindholm were in digging at pucks and there is Sean Monahan standing further back on the wall in no man's land watching. Just terrible.

Very good point. The Stars were a goal away from beating the eventual champions the St Louis Blues. Who knows, if they scored in OT, maybe the Stats end up winning the Cup in 2019.

I have a hard time believing Sutter couldn't motivate Monahan, or Johnny. I can promise you he would have had the team come out on fire for today's game and not one guy would dare take their foot off the pedal. That said, he is not the only coach who can get more our of the players.

'flames were close on....' Is such a oileresque rhetoric that has become common place for the flames franchise the past few seasons. It's dumb.

Overpaid underachievers on limited term & higher/more picks would be fine. I think it's basically a rebuild mentality, except the roster guys we'd be keeping are actually showing some promise (Tkachuk, Dube, Mangi, Lindholm (I think he's injured), Bennett, Anderson, Hanifin). Rebuild around a young talented core with some smart trades.

True. He has not been effective on the scoreboard, but he definitely adds other elements to the game. He was effective against the Jets.

Here is another question, everyone questioning Johnny's toughness, but when was the last time Monahan hit someone, anyone? No point flexing in pics if you are going to shrink in games.
