Well if we trade with Buffalo they will want Johnny to help them get into the playoffs before they're 15 points back at the deadline and Calgary will want to unload him so they can draft with Buffalos 1st rounder + take a run at Taylor Hall

Mentioned it earlier but here are Gaudreau and Monahan as a pair at 5v5 in their 4 playoff appearances:

2019-2020

GP: 9
TOI: 115
CF%: 40.5%
HDCF%: 25.0%
xGF%: 37.7%

GF: 1
GA: 2 (both game winners)

Haven’t given up much defensively this year but have been unable to generate any offence. And no high danger chances. Ice tilted to their end.

2018-2019:

GP: 5
TOI: 66:00
CF%: 51.4%
HDCF%: 35.7%
xGF%: 45.3%

GF: 2
GA: 1

Last year they were able to carry play but couldn’t get to the scoring areas and gave up too much off the rush.

2016-2017

GP:4
TOI: 52
CF%: 56.9%
HDCF%: 63.6%
xGF%: 57.8%

GF: 0
GA: 3

This was the teams best playoff performance with this core and a sweep was so undeserved. They were undid by Brian Elliott having one of the worst goaltending performances I’ve ever seen and bad special teams.

14-15

GP: 11
TOI: 126
CF%: 42.2%
HDCF%: 37.9%
xGF%: 41.6%

GF: 4
GA: 5

At this time they were still a young team that had done good against a poor Vancouver team but were overwhelmed by a better Ducks team.

Sadly the biggest concern for these two is that they appear to have gotten worse, and they’ve never been able to transition their offence to the playoffs. No chances generated and unable to generate off the cycle which you need to do in the playoffs.

Pretty tragic that this core peaked in 2015 with that victory over the Canucks. We were legit a better team 5 years ago than now.

Suck really bad for 1 year. Get a Top 3 pick. Take advantage of teams with cap issues because it won't be going up.

Success!
Easy to say, not going to happen in a flat cap world.

If we trade those guys it's not for picks and prospects. It's for a bundle of spare parts and salary dumps.

Definitely not. That Canucks team was the worst playoff team of the 2010s. That Flames team had Dave Jones and Matt Stajan on its second line.

Come on, now. This Flames team is pretty good and there's still reason for optimism that a retool could do them fine.

What a nothing game. Just a whole lot of nothing. Very low event. Flames came out flat. Virtually no desperation in the 3rd. Dallas went into a defensive shell and the Flames barely did anything to take advantage of it. What a very lackluster effort. Flames have nothing to counter Heiskanen and Klingberg, nothing at all. They’re absolutely owning the Flames.

The core of this team will be thoroughly critiqued if they lose this series and big moves will definitely be made. It’s been pretty clear in this series who the Flames should be looking forward to build around.

What is not getting discussed, is how much we miss Tkachuk in the lineup. Tkachuk has the ability to throw the opposing team off their game, draw penalties, even if he doesn't find himself on the scoreboard.

Majority of NHL GM's aren't THAT bright, or rather, risk-adverse. They're always looking for big impact moves, and willing to sacrifice long term, for what they hope will be great short term gain.

Gaudreau stats over his career are very favourable, and he's only a season removed from his 99 point season. He's on the right side of 30 also. Although his contract is nearing it's end, we've even seen with rentals for big name players that they still can have a good haul bought in. Gaudreau has the playmaking appeal that there are definitely GM's around the league that feel his adition can work within their lineup, and set them over the top.

I think Gaudreau is a great complimentary player, if he's along with a player(s) that can make #### happen themselves. There would be a strong market for Johnny, and I think Treliving needs to take advantage of it this offseason, since the way the team is assembled currently, we've reached the ceiling with Johnny.
I certainly hope so, I'm just anticipating the worst. It makes the fall easier.

[QUOTE;7543678]I am not a huge fan of Treliving full disclosure.

That being said, if that is the case, how many chances can one guy get to figure out a goalie and coach. Its getting comical how little criticism he gets for it.[/QUOTE]

I don’t see changing goalies the same as changing coaches. Our goaltending has been decent the last couple years but this offseason I see potential franchise goalies in Markstrom and Lehner available in free agency.

On a positive note I was impressed that Backlund threw a decent hit tonight - didn't think he had it in him. That created some momentum for us that continued for a bit.

I think the last time I actually enjoyed watching this team was some of the Hudler seasons.

Yeah Hartley, "us against the world" but he didn't have a Talbot!

I’m listening to the 960 postgame. Peter Loubardias is talking about the importance of experience. I disagree. I think the important thing is to get better players. In this series, that means getting Tkachuk back.

or we end up with a bunch of Poirier and Klimchuk clones.
Lindholm has been the worst one of the three.

This team is built for non playoffs. One more playoff win than last.

Just curious to see if Treliving has the ability to actually make the necessary changes this summer. If he sits on his hands with this core again, he should go too.

I'd say overall I agree.

Our depth now is way better I think (even with half of them underperforming goal-wise), but that top line is just a waste of ice time 5on5 right now.

I really want to believe you.. but his 5 points in 15 playoff games (2 in 6 this season) don't really make me believe he would be the difference between winning and losing in this playoff series.

Here's an excerpt from when the Canucks fired Willie Desjardins:

That right there, is what we haven't had for the last five years. A coach who by all accounts will outcoach the other team's coach. Ward, Gulutzan, Peters all lost their coaching matchhups to Bowness, Carlyle, and Bednar.

I think he is implying the head coach.
