Dube should not have dumped the puck there. That's a microchosm of what's wrong with this team. Had Bennett streaking through the middle, get a controlled entry FFS.

The line is what it is. One guy is dynamic and can control the play, and the other two have lesser puck skills. Too easy to defend that. Gaudreau is a premier player, Lindholm and Monahan, in particular, need others to drive the play and manipulate the defensive structure of the opposition. I would suggest a first line needs a couple of threats to create odd man scenarios, and line one doesn't offer that. I think Monahan and Lindholm are giving effort, they just don't possess skills that make them dangerous when controlling the puck.

I really doubt Darryl was ever doing some can kicking. He was a pretty calm and cerebral dude. I imagine it was more a biting wit and a propensity to reward hard work vs skill that made people move their asses.

He would probably have cut the 1st lines ice time significantly and be double shifting lines 2 and 3 at this point.

Mangiapane - Backlund - Lindholm: Lets get Lindholm with some other defensively responsible guys and see if he relaxes a little.

Gaudreau - Bennett - Lucic: Gaudreau doesn't have space...nobody better to open up space physically than Bennett and Lucic for him.

Dube - Monahan - Reider: Monahan isn't the greatest skater, lets flank him with a couple guys that can fly.

If we want to shake up the lines this is where I'm going.
This is well balanced.

If the Flames were to move Benny up, would you put in on the wing, knowing that he's not nearly as effective when he's not playing center? Or do you move Monahan over?

Very underrated, because he played in Winnipeg and then Buffalo. IIRC Hawerchuk and Mogilny were great together in Buffalo.

If the coach has to consistently motivate your top players (forwards?) ...

You’ve got the wrong top players.

Gaudrea needs to stop being so cute all the time. Gets it in the slot and flubs it trying to make a cute play. Shoot the ####ing thing.

If we could stop dumping the puck in and immediately losing possession that would be great

Every time they say Dickenson's name, I say to myself: "The Bruce Dickenson?"
