Gaudreau with the right center will put up 100+ points easily...on a line where he doesn't have to do it all himself. You don't want that happening with a spare parts type return

We let our emotions cloud things.
I hope you're right but I fully expect to be underwhelmed by the return. His play over the last year and a half guarantees that. The only hope for a stellar return is a gm that really wants him and thinks he can fix him.

Maybe so, but will he still be the same player in the playoffs, or will he continue to struggle?

He's a perimeter player who won't go to the dirty areas to get goals. The book is out on him. Unless he changes the way he plays, 100 points is a dream.

The same player that's won everything to win at every other level he's played at?

Yeah give him a center like Horvat, Draisaitl or Eichel and he's in MVP conversations

I'm talking about playoff Johnny, who plays on the perimeter, throws the puck away to avoid contact, and stays away from traffic. Those guys won't help much-he already plays with a guy who is a pt/game player in the playoffs...

Why is Horvat in the same sentence as Draisaitl and Eichel? Dafuq.

Yeah, I don’t know.

He is actually playing hockey now.

Those other guys are, what, golfing?

I'm a little disappointed with what Monahan has become but that doesn't mean he's not still an incredibly valuable player to have.

He literally got 99 one season ago

I've seen Mony over the course of this year really trying to be a better 200ft player, and in these playoffs he's been willing to throw his weight around a lot more. He's often very useful in the clutch, and like I said-point per game player in the playoffs. I believe he wants to win.

"200ft game" is not a sexy term but Monahan's is strong in this post season. And he's been far and away better than Lindholm in this series.

Do we wish he would be a possession monster out there? Of course, but he's doing well at the things he is doing, and at a more advanced level than in seasons passed.

Yes I agree. Monahan has deliberately developed his defensive game and deserves acknowledgement

He overachieved like the whole team. Everything that could go right did, that is until the playoffs and we know what happened there.

We're talking about a player who is a point per game in his career, had 84 points the season prior.

I get the Flames have been anything but consistent the last 1.5 seasons, but let's not sell our own players short.

Lol... lol. He has multiple PPG+ seasons.

Its one thing to write him off in the post season but to have the audacity to suggest that Johnny's offensive game has been a fluke or flash in the pan is laughably absurd and deserves every bit of flak it has coming. Come on, that warrants a time out in the corner dude. Your memory appears to be short/screwy.

Let's not misremember things and start making up fairytales to fit the current bitch pigeon narratives going on in here.

I'm not selling him short. The book is out on Gaudreau and players know how to defend him. That's why his production was down this year. He looks to be a player who is stubborn and won't adapt his game.

The book has been out on the entire team the last 1.5 seasons, unless you want to attribute the whole team's declining performance to Gaudreau.

I'm talking about his tendencies when he has the puck and how quickly opposition players know what he is going to do next.
