Updated team charts today from the excellent Sean Tierney. Make sure to adjust for sample size and opponent as you see fit. Personally I ordinarily use 18 games and did not consider the Jets a strong team.
The Flames as a team are playing fairly well, noting they played the Jets 4/6 games so far. As we know, the surprising thing is they are doing so with the top line as the weak link.

Same thing but players. Again, adjust for sample and opponent as you see fit. Personally, for players I ordinarily use at least 200 5v5 minutes.
Just one line/pairing on the team getting outplayed. Thankfully they are playing low-event hockey - if you hid the names you would think they were an all-out shutdown line!

To be fair Pepsi did say our top 10 players.
But I do keep reading about Johnny doing nothing when Monahan is doing even less. I thought Johnny had some dangerous rushes. You dont end up with 4 shots and an assist if you're a no show.
Giordano is perplexingly strange. Its crazy how bad he is playing right now. Every touch of the puck seems like a bad adventure when he has been our rock for so long. Playoff jitters? Really hope he gets back on track starting tonight.

Interesting that the line that's worse than gaudreau/monahan's is the line with flames potential Savior Taylor Hall on it

Keep seeing so many people ripping on Johnny, but what about Sean Monahan? Johnny at least had 4 shots on goal and ended up with an assist and a even plus minus. Monahan had zero shots, a giveaway and was a -1. He has one shot in the two games vs Dallas. If Gaudreau is considered a no show then what are we calling Monahan?
Monahan is completely lost offensively. He's fumbling pucks, dumping it to zero-probability retrieval areas. At least the line hasn't been terrible defensively, but offensively, they look nervous and scared, both monahan and Lindholm treating the puck like a grenade 5 on 5. At least gaudreau is touching the puck and skating with it...

I think that it's interesting in a much different way than you, given that Gaudreau has been by far the weakest link statistically on our top line while Hall has been by far the strongest on his line.

Huh?
Gaudreau is performing very, very poorly, but by almost every metric, Monahan and Lindholm are even worse.
With that said, when everyone on a line is performing that poorly, it's really not helpful to just look at the stats to say X is playing better than Y.
As a line, they are getting their teeth caved in, and unlike some seasons before, the metrics don't back them up either. It's certainly very concerning as a Flames' fan. I have no answers.

That's playoff hockey though. Touch and go chaos. Monahan plays too soft for playoff hockey, his team mates will get jumped and he'll just casually turn away and peace out. He comes across as not wanting to sacrifice his body so he could put up points - but that only results in the other team taking it to him, and when he doesn't push back, it's like a defeat because they lose time and space. I'd shuffle the lines more often and give Bennett more time on the first line, and change it up with Lucic getting a few shifts with 23+13 too
it's too bad they don't play this hard throughout the season, I'm all for them finishing checks regardless of what season it is

If there is no pandemic, if it's just like every other playoff. We as fans would be thrilled that we've got a split out of the first 2 games on the road. And yet, it's all doom and gloom.

We're 1 and 1 against a hated team in the playoffs, and Benn spears one of our stars and people want to debate which one of our players has been the worst so far.
It's unbelievable.

Monahan has been way more physical this PO. You’re relying on an old narrative.

We are playing in Edmonton, we are playing on the road, We are playing in a building that smells like hobo pee, in front of a fake computer driven fan sound track. Men, we've got them where we want them.

The home and away thing is not what it usually is.
The performance of the top players to this point in the playoffs are inexcusable. Our top players have been non-factors during 5v5 play.
No excuses. If these core players don't start delivering during 5v5 play, that's it for this core and it's a re-tool in the way that Colorado did it with dealing O'Reilly and then Duchene. Everyone being doom and gloom is because we've seen this play out before. It's on the core of this team to step up and do something new and push back and take control of tonight's game.
I'm hoping we see the team truly show that they've grown.
