Turning the blade up and pulling it into a player is not an accident. Everyone who has played the game knows what a spear is, why they should never do it, and is FULLY aware that they are in fact doing it.
It is not an accidental thing, like your foot going out instinctively when someone is skating past you

I think some sort of frontier justice applied to Benn should be part of the strategy tonight. He needs to be eliminated as a chess piece. Certainly it’s part of the game and has been done in the past.

Precisely why the league made a mistake by not disciplining him. Now the Flames will (or at least, should) take things into their own hands.

It's hard to "prove" intent, but I have a hard time believing Benn did that by accident.
I sure hope Treliving is talking to the league about it. I have to believe that he is.
|
That view shows a pretty blatant spear if you ask me. Just look at the movement of Benn's hand, raising his stick up like that.

Too bad we were playing the next day. Might not be enough time to garner the necessary attention to the play to have some sort of justice served.

Gio should "accidentally-on-purpose" knee Benn in the nuts, the same way he "accidentally-on-purpose" speared Tkachuk in his family jewels.
The legend of Kneeordano lives on!

Lol nah, Kneeordano should go for the knee. Benn's a big boy, one injury to those suckers and he will hurt for life. He deserves it.

Exactly, you can see him turn his stick. This is how he plays nothing new for Benn.

That said, if Tkachuk is out tonight it's likely due to a concussion -- he clearly had his bell rung and had trouble getting off the ice. A sore groan won't keep him out of a playoff game, but concussion symptoms will.

This, it’s from smashing faces with Oleksiak if anything.
Not that the spear doesn’t deserve discipline.

Maybe we should ask Kassian what he thinks. He is the keeper of the code.

Mouth guards alao protect the jaw and resulting head injuries from jaw strikes

right. another way of saying it, is preventing upper and lower teeth from smashing into each, resulting in a head injury. You could tell who doesn't play hockey or wasn't forced to wear mouth guards in their leagues.
We'll see if 19 changes his attitude towards mouth guards

A good way to ensure Calgary likely loses a key game.
The strategy needs to be to win, not concentrating on some sort of frontier justice.
That can come next year when the stakes aren’t so high.

For us to win you focus that rage you have onto clean hits on the ice and everyone has to buy in.
Yeah, Benn is a dirty POS but when the whole team finishes checks on him he starts taking dumb penalties, followed by Perry .
Eliminate those 2 piles of fecal matter and maybe were talking a series . If we don't push back ....its over.
I'm hoping they put Quine in instead of Rinaldo to win the game...not seeking anything redemption where we lose the game on the scoreboard .
This is a huge game tonight obviously.

Having watched the replay, I do wonder if Tkachuk suffered a loss of equilibrium upon impact. The collision appears to be directed to the back of Tkachuk’s head, more specifically behind his ear. Having watched MMA in the past, a blow behind the ear usually causes a fighter to lose their balance and wits, but doesn’t appear to be a long term injury. Not sure if Tkachuk will play tonight, but I’m not gonna count him out for the rest of the series.

If he can't play, I want him behind the bench rallying the troops. It he is feeling up to it of course.

I think Perry needs to be punched in the face repeatedly. I know he didn't spear Tkachuk but I still believe this is the correct action.
