I think we need to stick with whats working, cause theres a whole lot thats not. Keep Dube with Bennett and Lucic. Blend the rest of the lines. Get Lindholm away from Sean and John. They're miserable performances are looking contagious for whoever gets that RW spot with them.
Was so impressed with Rieder at the end there and even more impressed with Ward recognizing that and sticking him on the top line. Only, thats probably a demotion at this point.

Joel Quenneville broke up his top line every other period and has three cups.

I think the team played poorly overall defensively for much of the game. There is a lot of blame to go around tonight, not just at the top line.
I think that since the top line has been ice-cold thus far outside the PP, they should have their minutes adjusted. Roll the first 3 lines evenly - maybe even the 4th as well since I don't think the 4th line really hurt the Flames tonight. The top line has been ineffective at generating offence so far, so let other lines that have been doing a better job offensively be rewarded with the extra shifts.
No point in overreacting to a loss. There is a lot to be disappointed with, but is definitely not the time to start jumping off bridges. Let's see how this team responds - after the Winnipeg loss, they responded very well. I expect the same tomorrow.

C to 19? Yikes. For quotable interviews, upside, or actual playoff performance?
Not the time for this argument. He is pushing the C out with his mediocre play

Gaudreau needs to be speeding when he receives pass. He is ineffective when standing on the centre ice for waiting and tipping the puck

As frustrating as it has been to be a Flames fan during the last 5 year stretch, I’m somewhat surprised they’re not even worse. This team has been saddled with given goalies who consistently give up soft goals with regularity.
It’s so frustrating and I think it is a significant factor in our fragility.

If you don't think that is a giant part of the problem I don't know what to tell you.

His role is bigger than just scoring goals. He does an effective job of agitating the other team and creating havoc on the ice.

It wasn't all bad. I really like to see the continued depth scoring and the Flames physical play. Fun comeback. A totally different team than the 2019 playoffs.
But the impact players need to start making an impact.

Gotta give credit to Dallas. Their best player was gliding all over the ice, creating zone entries and pinching at all the right times. They matched the Flames pugnacity. They got contributions from all 4 lines.
For the flames, fourth line looked pretty good. Great on the forecheck, kept it in the Ozone. Ward did give them an offensive zone start in the first period. To me, that's bad coaching. Your top two lines are struggling for Ozone time. You can't waste an offensive faceoff on the 4th line.
Third line looks great. Their dump and chase forecheck constantly retrieved the puck.
Second line struggles at zone entry.
First line is downright terrible. People blame Gaudreau, but I gotta blame the coach. Monahan dump for Gaudreau to chase is downright stupid. Johnny waiting at the offensive blue line for a perfect stretch pass is stupid. Fail fail fail. Gaudreau needs the puck at his own blue line and to enter with speed, with the option to dump for his other players. Coach them better. Putting Bennett with them is at least a positive sign.
Brodie also needs to stop pinching or communicate better to make sure someone is covering the point.

Wouldn't hurt to try it.
Lindholm-Tkachuk had chemistry so why not play them with the hottest forward
Mangiapane is a sparkplug that can hopefully put a tiny bit (more than zero) of energy into Monahan and Gaudreau
Backlund-Bennett-Lucic .. yeah kinda threw that together.

You don't break up the 3rd line, which also happens to be out best line in this series and the playoffs.

I'm honestly not upset about that loss they battled hard and could have won it, but man we are just so handicapped as a team with our first line every game i have this hope they will start clicking or at least do something but they are just completely awful.

Dube - Bennett - Lucic : been the best line for this team all playoff don’t mess it up
Jankowski - Ryan - Reider: Been okay and are mostly there for PK time.
The most energy Gaudreau has all season was for that week when his childhood buddy Robinson was on his line, let’s try that again.
|
Good lord. Robinson had a childhood fantasy couple of games, where he was set up once by Johnny. That was the climax of the story. Not the go forward answer
Seeing Buddy Robinson dump the puck in for Gaudreau to chase is a moment I will never forget and never want to see again
