Interesting note...cant find a link for it, heard it on the FAN 590....but apparently JP met with some seasons tickets holders yesterday and among other things mentioned that he thinks if all goes well Victor Zambrano will be the teams #3 starter. This surprised me, kind of a slap in the face of Gustavo...although he is still young....hope Zambrano can step up into the #3 hole...that would be nice.

The Toronto Blue Jays say payroll will not be an issue in 2007 if it means getting the missing piece to a championship puzzle.
Blue Jays president Paul Godfrey tells the Globe and Mail he's confident team owner Ted Rogers would approve any payroll expenditure for the right player.
"Let's just say that I would have no problem saying to Ted, 'Here it is, July 10, the all-star break - whatever - the team is in contention for the AL East or the wild-card spot and we need to get this missing piece," he tells the newspaper.

I like the Shannon Stewart signing for the A's ... he had a rough season last year with injuries but I think they may have found themselves a bit of a gem (especially at that price).

Park hasn't been the same pitcher since 2001, which is baffling. I remember catching a couple of Pads games where he pitched and that movement on his fastball is nothing short of amazing. The sad thing is, it doesn't look like Chan Ho even knows where it is going anymore.
This seems to happen a lot with some of the overseas pitchers from asian countries... their arms just get destroyed in their Highschool days.
I know there is a story on one of the Jays prospects who had to throw 250 pitches in a single game! Others who had to pitch to back to back nights. Their arms just don't have the stamina to last into their 30s anymore.

Stewart to the A's is a decent deal for the A's. The problem is the A's needed another big time hitter and regular left fielder. Stewart has had huge injury issues the past couple of years and imo would be better of as a bench player.

So true, a catcher who puts up offensive numbers is worth his weight in gold. gotta lock those types up when you have to opportunity.

Baltimore moved quickly to fill his spot in the starting rotation, agreeing Monday with free agent right-hander Steve Trachsel on a US$3.1-million, one-year contract, according to a baseball official who spoke on condition of annonymity because the deal has not yet been finalized. The contract, which is pending a physical, includes a $3 million salary this year and a 2008 club option with a $100,000 buyout.

I'm not a fan of Trachsel after the crap he put up here in Toronto, but the deals these lower pitchers are signing all of a sudden are pretty nice (from a club's point of view). A $100,000 buyout on a $3M contract is real decent.

That is gold.
I don't think he is planning on having a bad year, just using this as leverage, he is due for a massive payday in the off season in the neighboorhoods of 13-15 per for a pitcher of his calibre. I don't think he is as good as Zito, but the guy is great.

The Cardinals acquired him from the Cleveland Indians on July 30; he hit a combined .272 with 30 doubles, 13 homers and 67 RBIs with the two teams in 2006.
