Yeah baby!!! Flames win the first game of the we won our only cup with Joe Nieuwendyk series. Lucic with the longest playoff point streak since Iginla and the Flames on their longest playoff winning streak since 2004. I love August hockey!

From the ATL

Are we 100% sure this didn't come from our PGT after losing to Winnipeg in game 2? Eerie.

Not worried about the first line. As we saw against Winnipeg they will get their points throughout the series. The fact that they aren't a liability is exactly how they have to play.

I won't argue Tkachuk has some growing up to do to become captain. Perry has never grown up. Still a scumbag. Still remember the injury he faked against the flames in 2015. Went down like he had taken a shotgun blast to the leg from Stajan. Came back in the game shortly after drawing that penalty and scored the game winner I believe. And just suspended in Feb for elbowing Pred's Ellis in the head a the winter classic. Don't compare a piece of **** to a future captain.
Tkachuk modeled his game after Perry's and when he was growing up Perry was his favourite player. And they both play similar games. Tkachuk in his draft interviews with the major sports networks said the player he was most like was Perry.....

Not really something to get upset about.

Seeing Tkachuck drop the gloves again once again brings back memories of Iggy in '04. Really loved seeing him put Perry on notice before he gets scumbaggy instead of after.

Great win last night, time to show that they can come out strong in a game 2 this Thursday

Homer alert.

Perry's had a 15 year NHL career. I suspect Tkachuk's list of borderline suspension-worthy plays will likely be as long as Perry's in 15 years.

Perry also has a Richard trophy and a Stanley Cup. He's a rat, but he's been a guy I've wanted on my team since he was drafted.

Just like Tkachuk.

Edit: and a Hart trophy!

The third line isn't going to carry the scoring load for an entire series, so something will have to give. The rest of the team will need to generate some serious offense or the Flames will find themselves in many 1-0, 2-1 games that will play much more into the Stars hands than their own.

This team has the makeup to turn this into a major run, provided they get more than just a no-liability effort from the best players.

The nice thing about the third line scoring is that the adjustments will likely free up opportunities for the first and second lines. It’s a great way to kick off a 7 game series.

My favourite part of the ATL is just seeing comments from the two fanbases side-by-side.

Stars fans seem like good, well-adjusted people.

Oilers fans, as usual, are NO GOOD. Possibly illiterate.

Speaking of Rasmus, does anyone have a gif of him dropping Benn at the blueline? I think Cuthbert said Benn gave him a "playful" cross-check afterwards -- he probably wasn't expecting to get dumped on his backside like that.

So interesting ... why would Ward move away from sheltering the top line in the playoffs?

Monahan has had 4 of 5 games under 40% (the other just over 40) compared to the regular season at close to 60%.

This goal reminds me of. Joe Nieuwendyk, he used score goals cutting in on the net like that.

Tough love? I don’t know, but if they continue posting zeroes against and start adding some +’s, Ward will look (or just be) a genius.

Am I crazy in wanting a swap between Lindholm and Mangipane? Maybe a shakeup motivates 13 & 23 a bit, and I think Chucky/Backs/Lindholm could be a hell of a line, the new defacto #1 (well #2, as the Lucic line is pretty clearly numero uno right now).

Or does that just lead to the Monahan line getting trapped in their zone even more than they are now?

Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Monahan - Backlund - Mangiapane

Might be a bad idea...but what about moving Lindholm to centre, Monahan to the wing, and having two puck-hounds on each line? This would also leave the Bennett line intact. This might weaken the 2-way ability of the 2nd line, it would give more to the first line.

This is very interesting- I wonder if it's actually a play at the opposing team's matchups. He might think he can get our top line a better D matchup while throwing them out against whatever offensive line Dallas is fielding to take the draw. Alternately, if Dallas is heavy on line matching us, throwing out our top o line on a dzone faceoff could result in Dallas "wasting" the o zone faceoff opportunity by ensuring that their better D players are out even though it's an o zone faceoff.
