Not accurate but funny none the less.

That post took me down memory lane though, and I got a lot of joy from re-reading this little gem from the year 2007:

Aaaaah, such an exciting future haha

Only a global pandemic could bring the cup back to Edmonton, and it won't be for the Oilers.

Another all time classic. And a nice reminder of just how long hockey media has fawned over the "up and coming" oilers. Amazing stuff.

Those cover-worthy players should have name tags for those of us who don't recognize them.

Its in the corner: Colgliano, Penner and Gagner. A who's who of losers.

100% off topic, but Bill, actually for really rolled those three in a row. No extra takes in between. 100% nailed em.

Like most rotten garbage or Oiler’s media pieces, this did not age well.

Ethan Bear has stepped in as a rookie defenceman and looked nothing short of tremendous for the Oilers driving play. Edmonton’s backend still has some question marks beyond Bear and Oscar Klefbom. Adam Larsson continues to drag down those around him as Darnell Nurse gets carried by Bear. Matt Benning, at the very least, has shown he can be a more than competent third-pairing defenceman.

Between Mikko Koskinen and Mike Smith, Edmonton is getting competent goaltending.

Bottom two goalie stats in the qualifiers = competent?

If you say so.

If it were my team I would say that doesn't cut it if I'm looking to win. But standards are a little different up there I suppose. Certainly not totally on them, but they were out-dueled by Corey Crawford who had to deal with equally poor defence.

After an at-times cautious season, the E=NG Thread once again returns to its roots as the rollicking, feel-good comedy hit of the summer!

This is a franchise that basically commissioned a tv show to document their successful re-build.
Oil Change premiered on June 24, 2010. The final episode was on May 5, 2013 and has this description on wikipedia:

"The disappointing final weeks of the team's season are chronicled in the third-season finale."

That was over 7 years ago. Nothing has changed. That description could be applied to almost every season of the Oilers for the last 15+ years.

Is there anything more arrogant than that?

"Sure we're the laughing stock of the NHL right now, but our rebuild is going to be so glorious that we owe it to our fans to document it for posterity."

Yeah a documentary that heralds Connor coming back from a knee injury that should have ended his career, according to them, and Connor was the executive producer. That's called an ego piece.

Pretty sure you can watch reruns of "oil change" on the comedy channel.

It'll be so sweet if the Flames can win it all this year and bring the Cup to Rogers Place to celebrate! That would be pure icing on the cake!

I'd forgotten about the game where they put up 8 goals against the Flames. Seemed like such a dark moment back then but good to see that the universe always returns to normal.
