I dunno guys.
As a long time Flames fan, I do want Edmonton to win the lottery. Heck, I assumed that was happening from the moment a qualifying round team was awarded the first overall pick.
Here's to Edmonton getting the first overall pick, then Lafreniere refusing to report.

Current HF chatter ranging from "LaFreniere would be that perfect fit..." to "What we need to do is draft a goalie." So so many good ideas, and so little time!

It's just rough justice for the Oilers to again come into the 1OA for being dealt the short straw for having to face a 12th seed to make the playoffs. It wasn't fair for neither Edmonton nor Pittsburgh to have to win a 5 game series against .500 clubs.

Oh I thought his post-game interviews were just transparent. He'd let in 5, 3 of which were dead soft, and if asked about it, he'd say there was a defensive breakdown, it was never, ever, his fault, his effort, his bumbling, always some other factor. No accountability, and a lot of snarkiness I thought.
If a goalie has a crap night, he should be able to say "Yeah I flubbed it, that's on me." And Smitty just never could get to that. Says a lot about his character imho.

Neal I absolutely agree with. I've seen a sack of potatoes skate faster than he did.
As for Smith, not so sure about that? I looked at some post-game comments from Smith, and I think you're right that he was calling out his teammates and in some cases even after a big win.
Perhaps that's Smith being a leader and trying to encourage some growth?

Smith's a better blame deflector than puck deflector.

But, how is deflecting your own absolute dumpster-fire incompetence leadership? Especially from a goalie? Nah, the accountability has to start right there.
Think about Big Save Dave, the team gave up I think 3 breakaways in 4 periods , and Rittich, when asked about that says "Oh, yeah, well that's why I am in the pipes." Totally different approach.
Nothing wrong with saying "Sorry guys, I shoulda had that." Nothing wrong with saying "Hey I blew that but I'll be on it from now on." And in a sense, in last year's playoffs, Smith physically did this - he showed up huge in that first game. But mentally, when you know your goalie is shaken, and you have the feeling that any puck could wibble on by him, and his take is "Man, you guys gotta tighten up." Boy, that would piss me off as a defender.

When you just missed the playoffs for the 13th time in 14 years, missing the playoffs is obviously not a fluke.
The Oilers are the worst team in North American sports history, and it’s not even close.
In a league where 50%+ of the teams make the playoffs every year, a team with trained dog for a coach would get their team to the playoffs more than 1 time in 14 years.

Is this not the same guy who last year struggled and got called out for it, then proceeded to get injured for a while. I think many here thought it was part physical.
I think he is a head case personally. If he was a leader he would be there thick and thin, but he strikes me as a thick guy and gets an excuse when things get thin on him.
Tre deserves full marks for letting both guys go. Especially Neal but Smith was a smart move too.

Sweet justice already happened the moment the Hawks closed out the Oilers in four games. If facing the 12 seeded Hawks was such a big risk then the Oilers were never really Stanley Cup contenders in the first place. The reality is the Leafs haven't won a playoff round since 2004 and the Penguins are also in a playoff slump. All three of these teams were ripe for the picking in the 1st round or the playoffs or a qualifying round.

Thanks for the free lunch, Oilers. Keep doing just enough to make my old co-worker think you stand a chance, and I'll keep winning food and beer.

Only an Oiler fanboy would claim their 5th 1st overall in a decade and picking top 10 for the 12th time in 14 years would be sweet justice. Garbage team, horrible media, questionable fans

Any goalie that continually waves his arms around after goals like they were everyone’s fault but his own, is an #######. Consistently making your teammates look bad on national television.

There's a 5 vs 5 stat post flying around on the Oilers HFboards about shooting percentage quality and chances generated against the Hawks, to perpetuate the idea that the Hawks were very lucky to have even won against the Stanley Cup favourite juggernaut known as the Oilers and how the Oilers should have just gotten a bye to the playoffs.
Must be something in the water. That's the only way that the Oilers can lose to the 23rd ranked team in the NHL in 4 games. Not because Nurse was a pylon, not because Mike Smith scored in his own net, not because Draisatl is invisble in the defensive zone, not because Kassian was a 3.2 million white elephant, not because RNH had 8 points and still managed to be a -2, and MCDavid leads the playoffs and is a +1.
Also don't look at McDavid's 43.1% FO, Haas 41.7%, Ennis at 33.3%. Those are meaningless, faceoffs don't score goals or pad stats.
