The Flames have now qualified for as many playoffs at Rogers Place as the Oilers

Some of my friends who are Oiler fans reminded me and have been talking about Friedman speculation from last year when the Oilers hired Holland, that Mcdavid had given the Oilers two seasons (this year and next) to put pieces in place around him, otherwise he'd ask to be moved.

While it makes me smile thinking about the tears if this were to happen, it also bugs me when kids make these sort of threats to their team. I doubt it's true though and it was only speculation and an opinion on Friedman's part, with no sources behind it.

I think theres a logical basis to that.

Many people speculated the exact same thing when they cleaned house and implemented Chiarelli and Mcllellan.

McDavid holds all the cards. He has his contract and if he demands a trade he'll get it. The Oilers will get hosed, but he'll get his trade.

Through my endurance and self sacrifice, I offer you the summation and distillation of all things No Good Oilers. In the last 2 minutes:

"I'm going to go with that the Oilers made the playoffs AND got in the draft lottery. Because I feel like they made the playoffs."

"Hopefully, it's a win-win-win and they win the draft lottery."

"Yeah, NOW you're talking like an Oilers fan!"

Looking at the Guy's facial reaction when he lost the draft lottery, and Edmonton popped up, how can you give the guy a "leadership" role, when he, clearly, was distressed at the reality that he was heading to the Oil? Honestly, it doesn't take a College educated person who had classes in Psychology (which I actually am) to see that he was going to have to get used to the idea that he was going to be an Oiler. And dumping the total team responsibility, including moving Hall to make room for his "leadership" was wrong, wrong-headed, and an additional burden on the kid's development. Now, it is all on Edmonton, that they have stunted any potential growth into "leadership" by projecting qualities that he may not actually have, or may not have been ready to assume, before he settled into life at the NHL level.

I am not denying the guy's physical talent or skills, just questioning whether he could have been helped by an apprenticeship in leading an NHL squad. If one argues, that "there were no veteran players to mentor the kid", that is just further indictment of the front office ineptitude of the Oil.

If you point to my team, and say, well, it worked for Toews, you ignore that the 'Hawks left guys like Seabrook, Keith, and Sharp, and added Hossa, to relieve some of that "leadership" burden. And, again, indicts the Oil brain (or brainless) trust in setting McStatpad up to fail in that area of team play.

Toews is a poor comparison. One of the most gifted leaders in sports vs. a guy that can skate really fast.

I could only last the intro.

"By the faithful, for the faithful".

The fact that their reporters represent themselves as fans and not professional journalists says everything.

Dont know if its been posted yet. Rumours going around in Edmonton that 2 possibly 3 of the remax 50/50 winners are realtors themselves and affiliated with remax. Scandal brewing in Edmonton or fake news.

McDavid hasn't won anything (outside of Team Canada things) since he played minor hockey and had the benefit of playoff Sam Bennett to carry him.

Doesn't diminish my point. The 'Hawk front office left Toews some veterans to ease his leadership burden.

Famously, Seabrook, settling an out of sorts Toews down, in a playoff series vs. Detroit, where some truly poor refereeing took away a goal, late in an elimination game, where the 'Hawks were on the ropes. I can't imagine any of the Oilers stepping up and telling McGlorious to "chill, we've got this", the way Seabrook did. (And Seabrook ended up with the OT winner!)

Exactly - even the very best leaders need leaders of their own to pave the way for them.

McDavid had no such mentorship or support

Agreed. Oilers continue to Oiler.

It is easy with the benefit of hindsight, but they could have just tried to develop McD into an NHLer, and a leader over time. Not right out of the gates, tho king because they won the lottery, they are automatically going to win multiple cups.

I guess they were so desperate for success at the time that they just overhyped, overplayed, and pushed him to the forefront.

Ahhh Edmonton, don’t ever change.

Just when I though you hit the bottom, you show me an new Lowe.

What are you talking about? Some bold moves were made last off-season to bring in veteran leadership:

Who could have guessed this wouldn’t work!?!

Two guys who thought their ability to shoot the puck hard made them superstars.

Well, the two names listed Danielle McGale and Steven Anderson both match up for names of real estate agents in Sherwood Park. Hmmm... fishy.

How can there be multiple winners? Aren't the ticket numbers unique?
