Default Moral beliefs may sway doctors, study finds

They are surprised by this?

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...208?hub=Health

A disturbing number of doctors do not feel obligated to tell patients about medical options they oppose morally, such as abortion and teen birth control, and believe they have no duty to refer people elsewhere for such treatments, researchers say.

,...

The study, conducted by University of Chicago researchers, found 86 per cent of those responding believe doctors are obligated to present all treatment options, and 71 per cent believe they must refer patients to another doctor for treatments they oppose. Slightly more than half the rest said they had no such obligation; the others were undecided.

this is pretty disturbing news. There is a great amount of trust you place in the people who take care of your medical needs, and doctor's should be there to provide all the options to make you as healthy as possible.

Maybe Doctor's should list their beliefs on a sign at their practice, so we know who to stay away from.

Then there was this wonderful story from last month: Rape victim jailed
Quote:
A 21-year-old woman who told police that a man raped her was jailed for two days after officers helping her found a warrant accusing her of failing to pay restitution for a 2003 theft arrest.

A jail worker later refused to give her a second dose of a morning-after pill to prevent pregnancy because of religious convictions, said Vic Moore, the college student's attorney. She was released from jail Monday only after Moore reported her plight to the local media.
