You can see the effort, and the physicality, which is fine, but I don't think I recall #19 getting any kind of offensive time with the puck or scoring chance 5 on 5 (or the PP for thet matter). This year, he officially made it a debate about who the best forward on this team is. Now's the time for him to solidify himself as the guy, but he hasn't shown that in the first 2 games of the series.
I disagree. He's been showing that he's an impact player. First game he had 4 hits, 2 shots, and participated in a fight. Second game he had 5 hits, 3 shots, and drew a powerplay. He's agitated them. He is very much on the Jets radar, and as such, should be disrupting Jet dynamics. You can tell every time there is a scrum, he's right in the middle. If you are asking that he puts up that kind of effort and scores goals every game, I think your expectations may be a bit high.

IMO, hes been playing well, and is opening up opportunities.

All I want is for Rinaldo to be benched. Its the playoffs and we are playing a guy who should only be used for regular season goon it up games. I don't care who plays in his place, but you don't dress a guy like Rinaldo in the playoffs.

Hmm. You have a point.

I have a higher ceiling for him than just a premium agitator. He's not a Avery, who's great at getting under the other team's skin. He's a Marchand, who can get under your skin but is also a top line forward skill-wise and should be depended on for offense.

If Tkachuk's line isn't contributing to the offense, or at least winning their shifts, then it applies even more pressure on monahan/gaudreau (not a good thing).

Flames just need to do a better job in transitioning between defence and offence. Flames have much better puck-movers on the back-end than Winnipeg - use them. The Flames do not look very dangerous moving as a 5-man unit every time. At the very least, change it up now and then and put a bit of doubt in the Jets' heads as to what the Flames are going to do when they get control of the puck.

I liked the aggression that the Flames showed last game, but too many players went over that line. You can be both aggressive and disciplined. I wasn't a fan of the reffing at all, but this is how they were calling it yesterday and the players didn't adjust to it.

Will be interesting to see how the Flames come out - confident and doing a better job of executing? A bit panicked with terrible execution? They looked like a panicked team through most of the Colorado series - hopefully a bit more experience now will allow them to settle down and play their game (which, once again, I hope involves a much quicker transition and trying to catch the Jets on odd-man rushes).

They really need to keep attacking their D and take any time and space away from them (fairly good job so far), but they also need to start jamming the net more and making life a whole lot more difficult for Hellebuyck. More screens, more jamming of the net, more emphasis on blocking his vision.

Flames play much better on the road! So I'll take it (for what it's worth).

Key to any series is to win game 1 and not lose 2 games in a row so if Flames can do that, they are in excellent shape!

1st time in like 17 games Flames did not score 3 plus goals in a game. Last time they did not score 3 goals they lost the game 3-2 and then went on to score 6 the next game.

Having said that, I have a feeling we might see Brossoit in net at some point.

Wishful thinking!

Bring in Quine or Czarnik then....
I know my small amount of posting is no to Jankowski but we need players who GAF and want to win.

Obviously we do not know the locker room but there are not enough who seem to want to win.

Keys. Learn to make a pass, puck support in all zones. Man they can’t stand being pressured and wheels come off. We let Winnipeg dictate. Can’t remember any zone pressure in offensive zone overly. Kept coughing puck up. Play like it’s your last game ever. 2 more times of crapping the bed and it will be a for a few. Just not a fun team to watch struggle handily. Everyone needs a crappo meter. Talk is cheap. Let’s do it!!!!

Memo to Flames - Today's DOs and DON'Ts:

DO:
- start, and stay, physical. All game.
- commit to D like Game 1
- play with flow; dictate the game
- think this is a tough team to beat and you'll need to be at your best

DON'T:
- take stupid, selfish penalties (Sam, especially you)
- stop to think every time you have the puck; you're a pro, let instinct take over
- give the puck away constantly in your own zone. If you must, freeze it until help arrives
- think you can waltz away with the game without working; you can't

Not exhaustive, but if they stick to that, they can win. Waiting to see which team shows up.

It's said a lot and likely considered a hockey cliché, but the level of performance and execution that the top two lines show this afternoon should tell Treliving a lot.

Hellebuyck absolutely has it in him to steal a game; I hope it isn't this one. The Flames missed an opportunity to put a stranglehold on this series last game. A big game by their goalie could really put the Flames in a desperate position.

Personally I would hope the Flames make a slight change to the lineup, Flames 4th line has really struggled. Zac Rinaldo out, Alan Quine in.

Following need to improve

1) Special teams, last game the power play was completely a none factor.

2) Remove the brain crap type of penalties (Sam Bennett and Andrew Mangiapane)

3) Flames top players need to step up and make a presence.

So far the best player in the series for either team is Lowry.

can we just abandon our system for one game and just play dump and chase ?

The jets wouldn't know what hit them because Were so ####ing predictable. We might even score a goal or 2.

Maybe let the boys drink some Samuel Jackson on the bench....a hockey game might break out.?

Let just show the F up this afternoon please.

If we don't win this series against this AHL team, every single coach/gm should be fired.

Plus NO new building for you scrubs! haha

Maybe not dump and chase. But, for the love of God, stop giving Winnipeg those odd man rushes. The Flames aren't able to get 3on1:s/2on1:s and/or breakaways as easily as the Jets get them, after a Flames-D-man makes a bad choice by pinching and joining the attack too aggressively or giving a horrifying pass at the same time you're getting a zone-entry. Of course, it is good to have a D-man supporting those fast straight attacks, but the Flames-D-men are overactive with those pinches and playing stupid too many times with the puck. So, if you aren't able to make a better decision, maybe dump and chase is the go-to -strategy, but those passes we saw yesterday from e.g. Lucic and Forbort, are the ones we shouldn't even see from a-NHL-caliber player. Yes, mistakes happen, but those passes were too awful to see when playing a QR-match game 2. Minimize giving those cross-crease passes, and rather play forward.

If they want to win this series, you just don't let your opponent to have those odd man rushes. After seeing game 1 and 2, it is so freaking hard to get good scoring chances while playing 5vs5. Keep trying to solve the Jets-D, but don't forget to make sure that the Jets have had way too many great scoring chances after the Flames have over-attacked.

So maybe dump and chase isn't the worst possible tactic, but only, if you aren't able to make good enough decisions with the puck. Rather dump the puck deep than make a horrible pass and give the Jets a great scoring chance. This should be useful at least for our bottom-6. Hoping to see Robinson or Quine replacing Rinaldo.

Hard to see the Jets finding a way to win again today, unless Scheifele is back and not super hobbled. I think Calgary just assumed the Jets would lay down and die, and they prob come out swinging hard today after missing a big opportunity yesterday.

3-2 Flames today.

edit: Ehlers... has yellow teeth? What?
