At this point there is no excuse not to beat this Jets team unless Helly steals the game for them. 3-1 Flames.

Just dawned on me that the best part of this first round is not having to endure some pathetic white out.

Maurice saying all the right things and he's not wrong in some respects.
5 on 5 nobody really had an advantage.
Special teams were key obviously but We still have to be better on D.
Getting outshot last game in the first period and watching Calgary just not get any momentum and watch it die even more for whatever reason after Schiefle went down is just mortifying.
Discipline is going to be key for sure with guys likely targeting MT . We have to forecheck better and get into the middle of the ice.
Jets will let us playon the perimeter all game if we stay there. If Helly sees all are shots and we continue making it easy it'll come back and bite us in the ass.
Big test today....just like last year ....big game one against AVS and then poop the bed and bow out after....hopefully they don't have to be reminded .

Especially when it isn’t even their thing. Team moved to Phoenix, the tradition followed. Deal with it already.

Playoffs are tough because momentum can swing from game to game. I loved how the the Flames played the last 45min of game 1 and hope it carries over. If Schiefele and Laine are out the Flames need to get a lead early and hopefully the Jets submit

Unfortunately I'm stuck at work during these next two games, so I'll have to watch them on PVR.
Go Flames!

Winnipeg is not even the "True North". Edmonton and Calgary are both further north.

Game 1 was an 11:30pm start time.
11:30pm was also the time I needed to be at the airport to help my aunt with her bags and get her new car (socially distanced of course).
So I missed the first. Then was up until 2am watching the rest of the game.
Today is 3:30 a much better time.
Car flag has been on the car the past could of days. HD this convo yesterday:
Wife: Why do you have the car flag out? You never have it out
Me: *interupts* unless its playoffs
Wife: But its not playoffs
Sister-in-law: Yes it is. They canceled the rest of the season and went straight to playoffs where if teams were close to getting in, they're in, something like that. Even I know this!
Me: Exactly, playoffs!
Go Flames Go

I have seen you mention this a few times now and it is bewildering. It was a moment early in the game, and the Flames more than recovered in the second and third periods, and utterly took over Game 1. I know the advanced metrics will suggest that the 5v5 play was close, but in reality the Flames were completely dominant.
Anyhow, I am a little nervous about today, but excited. I loved what I saw on Saturday night, and am sure hoping to see a lot more of that today.

But... but... Tkachuk amputated his leg with an axe, how could this be???
I've kinda been watching and waiting to see some kind of update or prognosis - the NHL is not allowing injury details of any kind to come out I guess during this phase? So the idea that an achilles tendon was cut with a skate is a very, very different narrative than the idea that a knee ligament was strained when a skate caught the boards.
If there's no huge cut on Scheifele's leg, Maurice really looks like a (worse) clown here.

How many teams in the NHL can afford to lose their top 2 centres and have depth? Seriously.

Eric Francis said that the buzz inside the bubble is that Scheifele's injury is not nearly as bad as first thought, and there is an expectation that he could play as early as today.

No I was responding directly to a pretty terrible take.

For the sake of Scheifele, and for the sake of getting a decent game today, I hope he plays. But it sure takes the wind from the sails of seeing Tkachuk as a murdering rogue if it happens.

Wouldn’t be terrible. Not much of a threat, but the depth is there on a positional need.

I'd be surprised if he played today. Wasn't he walking around in a boot yesterday? My bet is he'll be back for game 3.
