Bennett had a great game (and the penalty call on him was garbage). Backlund's line, with Tkachuk and Mangiapane were really solid. Brodie was a beast. The team defense was great overall. Talbot was solid, but never had to make any really big saves, just square to the shooter and let the D take care of the rebounds.

Really good game overall.

But it would be really nice if, just for once, the media could give the Flames a bit of credit, instead of trying to make them out to be villains.

Tkachuk's reaction to the backlund goal was great also.

He's taken on the role of the vocal leader since coming back.

Sports net highlights saying Schiefele ‘taken hard into the boards by Tkachuk’. Nope. Call a spade a spade you biased garbage network. Turned away to avoid a hit and got hurt. Horrible for Schiefele and would not wish that on any player. If McDavid was in tkachuks position it would have been labeled an accident. Which is true.

"You know, I remember rookie tkachuk humping Davidson in a pre season game and injuring him, attempt to slewfoot drai and only bouncing off of him, unnecessarily slewfooting former Oiler Martin Marincin literally in the last second of a game, running Kass, now probably matt cooke’ing Scheifele by hopefully not slicing his achilles. He always goes unscathed and finishes the game like everything he does it acceptable. I don’t f***ing get it. Watch that piece of #### score an Important goal and have these toothless clown flames fans tell us that everything is okay, that we’re just mad and that we’re overreacting."

So many interesting aspects of this match up between Tkachuk and the Jets.

Is Walt’s jersey retired there? He was a fan favourite back then.

Doesn’t he have a lot of family in Winnipeg? I think his mother is from there.

With those connections, they passed on him for Laine, wonder if that ever bothered Matthew.

Also funny that Wheelers’s last fight was in February against Brady, with same result, Wheeler ending up on his back.

NOn Tkachuk related, but I wonder if Laine took himself out of the game because he needs to save his hands to play video games.

I honestly get the Jets fans being so pissed, and the optics couldn't be worse. Tkachuk has a reputation (mostly unearned), and was throwing a lot of hits to the top players.

My first thought when I saw Scheifele hurt was "Oh ####... That's the series there."

Winnipegs big weakness was lack of depth even before the injury, and Scheifele is possibly the worst possible guy to lose. Maybe even worse than losing Hellebuyck would have been. Unless the Flames find a way to choke this away or Hellebuyck activates God mode, they should win the series easy, and that has to be a terrible feeling if you're a Jets fan. Honestly I feel a bit bummed about it, feels unfair and dumb to have something like this happen even before we could get a good taste of which team is actually better. I get the Jets fans having trouble keeping their heads clear.

All that said: accidents happen, and the reason this is so devastating is because the Jets lack depth especially at that position. Lack of depth was likely to hurt them some way at some point, and that's not on the Flames or Tkachuk. If we lost Monahan or any other forward to an accident, it would suck but it wouldn't be nearly as bad.

IMHO it sucks for the series in general, I would rather have the Flames beat a more competitive team, but it's not like there's a way to make it unhappen.

As for how the Flames played, they were IMO fine, which was enough. Other than the PK and some individuals I mostly wasn't impressed, but the Flames didn't need to do anything special. Solid overall play was enough to carry the day, and will likely be enough to take the series.

Last night was a much more solid performance.

I feel bad for Scheifele; that looked like an ugly injury, but at the same time, just take the hit.
The only intent Tkachuk had was to crush Scheifele, because this is playoffs, and that's what you do to get the edge.

I thought the Gio slash (even if it wasn't the cause of Laine's injury) was way worse. That I can undertaken the Jets/Jets fans being miffed about.

With no fans in the empty arena, media could hear everything being said on the ice, including a discussion about whether Scheifele needed a stretcher and/or ambulance. The Jets were irate, with Maurice screaming "He kicked his (expletive) legs out" to officials on the ice, who called no penalty. Scheifele was eventually helped off, putting no weight on his left leg. He did not return.
OK...now i know Maurice is just making shirt up, because that certainlyt did not happen and wasn't even close to happening.

Maurice is doing his job by deflecting attention off his own teams play in the aftermath of a pretty sound defeat. That said, when you overplay your hand you lose your audience, at least the intended one. And this is exactly what he did.
