The CX-7 should come in under that price, and you should be able to find a two year old MDX with low km's for less than $35g US. You might be able to get one of the new Touaregs with a V6 for that price if you look hard enough for an 06 still kicking around a dealership (look for the 06 or newer though as the 05 and older V6 was underpowered for the vehichle and the mileage sucks considering how powerless it is). I like the looks of the Touareg myself and think it's more than manly enough.....but at the end of the day the Toyota was cheaper, better on gas, and has a rock solid record of reliability behind it. Plain and simple that vehichle suited our needs better, and I'm not as concerned about driving a manly vehichle as I used to be. Besides I still have my convertible that I can drive for those two months of summer I get.

I think that a loaded Forester XT should have a MSRP of $30k-ish, here is a review, if you guys like a fast/fun/safe small-SUV the Subie is tough to beat...my wife and I test drove one for ****s and giggles and you can't help but when you drive her...

Sweet, I looked at the review and the picture and I liked it.....it's a good price also. I hope my husband will too cuz Im sick of going to dealerships and not agreeing on what we like. Do you know if you can get it with navigation? I get LOST in this crazy Bay Area!
Wait, under "Transmission", it says Manual. I can't drive a stick shift. Can you get it in automatic also?

It comes in both manual and auto. No fun driving a Forester XT with an auto though. Practice manual. lol
I don't think it comes with Navi either. Just pick up a portable unit. Works just as well as an OEM unit, for a fraction of the price.

Agreed, you can pick up a better aftermarket Navi system and an automatic transmission but I gotta agree with CRXguy, manual is the way to go, it is wwwwwwwaaaaay more fun and really not that hard to learn (but sometimes its better to learn from someone other than your spouse). Plus ladies that can drive standard are rare and have a certain je ne c'est quoi (sp?).
Although if you are stuck in traffic most of the time a manual is more work.
Either way, test drive the XT I promise you won't be disappointed...
Now if you are looking for advice on which team to cheer for we can help with that too

Nice car
Winter tires on steel rims (Canadian tire brand is good value), a block heater and a little car flag

Thanks for the advice..you and CRXguy both. Yeah, i dont know about driving a stick shift. I don't want to deal with it....ha I can see what you're saying about ladies who drive standard having more je ne c'est quoi but Im married and I dont really care what other men think. Haha. Yeah, Ill definately test drive the XT this weekend.
I definately don't need advice on what team to cheer for, especially from a Flames fan, thank you very much Oilers suck, but I love em and think they still have a shot at catching Minny. And if it can't be them in the West, than I'm also a lil SJ biased since ive lived here for a loooong time.

Yeah, a female driving stick is HOT! lol... I guess that's why I married my wife.
OilersBaby... if you do decide on the Forester XT, you will not be disappointed. My opinion may be a bit biased, cuz I drive a WRX. hehe

Now here is something I've yet to understand. People go out and spend a lot of money on a good looking car, and then they really cheap out on the winter rims.
To put those god awful black rims on an otherwise decent looking car just brings it down so much. And the difference in money to put some nicer spoked alloys on is not all that much, really.
Now if you don't have a lot of money to spend, fine, then buy a KIA and throw some steelies on it for the winter. If your car runs nice alloys in the summer, then get some decent looking rims for your winter rubber; after all, you're looking at it for 1/3 of the year...

Don't mean to interrupt. I did look at the Forrester last summer but ended up buying a Ford Escape XLT. You get alot more for your money compared with the Forrester. And yah I know what people say about Fords but the one I bought is great.
Mine has the V6 and has lots of power. The steering is really responsive and handles the road well. In fact while driving down the highway I can take my hands of the wheel and it still hugs the road. Also corners nice as well. I also got the sunroof/moon roof package - a really nice option for the summer months.

The Rav 4 was a bit better, but I dont like it. So tomorrow, we'll go test drive the ones you suggested. Ill let you know how it goes

Do new cars come with any kind of tire warrant? I just bought a new fusion. Only 5000 k's and I happen to run over a 4 inch bolt that went right into my tire. The tire cannot be fixed. Do you know if there is any warranty for that?

Unless you either purchased a road hazard warranty with the car, or the car came with one (not likely with a Ford), I think you may out of luck.

That's too bad, it won't be covered under new car warranty. The only way you'll be covered is if your tires starting shredding to pieces on it's own.

What's wrong with black steelies? It's for winter, you're not looking to get show points. It's cheap and gets the job done. If you happen to curb and bend the wheel(s), it'll only cost you $40-70 per wheel depending on size. Try to find some "decent" looking alloys that don't cost much more.

And buying a cheap Hyundai gets the job done too.
My point is that some people spend a lot of money on a nice looking car, and getting show points is part of the buying reason for the vast majority of people. If this wasn't the case, we would all be driving the same boring bread boxes...

Awesome, be sure to drive an XT Forester (vs the non-turbo) and be sure to check out the size of the sunroof, it is massive. Which, being in SJ would be a huge plus...

If you were talking about the summer, I'd agree with you.
This is winter. Things change during this season.

Apparently not for the guy trying to drive the canary yellow RX8 on summer tires that I was following this morning.
