Vladdy seems like a guy who has gotten by on supreme talent alone up, to be the best at the major league level it takes hard work combined with talent. I would think being around guys like Biggio and Bichette that will push him to be better going forward.

I'm still not sold on Montoyo either but I also don't totally blame him for yesterday. Giles did look fine getting the first 2 and while yes you want a manager to make a hard decision like that I also see the angle of trusting your guys. In the second game of the season if your high end closer is telling you he is fine I don't think believing he can get it done is egregious.
While his decision are for up for debate he does seem like a manager that let's his guys be themselves and there are positives to that I think we are seeing. it was a pretty impressive series for the Jays considering the competition.
Because he has already been around for a while it is so easy to forget Vlad just turned 21. I agree you want to see more work ethic and a commitment to fitness but I think you can say that about a lot of 21 year olds, never mind one's as supremely talented as he is.

All we can do though, is wait and hope he figures it out, and also hope that guys like Bo, Biggio, Groshans and Martin make it so it doesn't really matter if he figures it out. Then if he does it will be a nice bonus...a cherry on top so to speak.
Also, I have lost all faith in Montoyo, particularly when it comes to managing the pitching staff, especially late in games. Last year he blew up Giles' arm right before the deadline by pitching him three days in a row against the Red Sox when the Jays were nowhere near contention, and the last two days were also a disaster.

You’re judging Vladdy on three games? How has he been a major disappointment? It’s not like he went 0-15 in the series. 4-14 is ok, had he gone 5-14 he’d batting off the charts. Defence was always a question mark for him. Expecting him to learn to play first in three week mini training camp is asking a lot. Not sure why they’d pick now to move him to first.
It does sound like the summer camp Vladdy showed up heavier then spring training Vladdy, so easy to question his fitness commitment now, but there’s a good chance he let himself go after spring trading was canceled and everyone thought there wouldn’t be a season.

Fan impatience can be incredible. Guerrero will be fine. Did he show any power in a 3 game series against tough pitching? Not really, but neither did Bichette.
If you want to see some power, watch the game they played in Boston prior to the opener. He not only cleared the wall but cleared the billboard above the wall, and put it out onto the street. Yes, that's not unusual, but the power was definitely on display.
His confidence is down right now, but he has tons of talent, great bat speed, knows how to hit, and has homer-derby power.

No I'm not judging Vladdy off of 3 games. He played over a 120 MLB games last year too, and had a barely above average 105 WRC+ which is a huge disappointment for a guy who was the #1 ranked prospect in all of baseball, raked at every level in the minors as a teenager, and tuned up AAA to a 180+ WRC+ as a 19 year old.
Hopefully he can make some adjustments, I'm sure he will...it's just a bit disappointing so far is all, especially when you combine it with the clear lack of proper conditioning that you expect a pro athlete to have.

Vladdy’s weight is the most disappointing thing about the start of this season to me - he looks like he spent the quarantine injecting brisket directly into his veins.
Being a big boy is one thing, but he looks like he’s carrying so much excess poundage that it’s difficult to swing the bat.
He also looks like he’s straightening up before he starts to swing. Doesn’t look fluid at all.

Jays way too anxious. Sanchez is just throwing slow junk.

If I want to listen to games on my phone, what app should I get? With flames games I just use tunein for fan 960 but it seems like baseball isn't that simple.
