Over at Dobber, one writer's brief take on the series.
This matchup reminds of the 1980s and Don Whitman doing play by play on the CBC. Many people in Calgary will forgive the poor seasons that Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan have had if they can go a few rounds this year in the playoffs. A loss to the Jets and many will question the Flames roster and core. Winnipeg has had their defence gutted since last season and are just not as good as they were. Having said that, they still are very talented in the forwards.
Both teams have potent offences and fairly good power plays. The difference for me will be the penalty kill where Calgary is a little better and the depth on the back end where Winnipeg will suffer. I'm looking forward to this series.

This is a tough one for me I love that I get to se my two favourite teams play but I am sad that one will be eliminated. I look forward to some witty banter and chirps with all the Flames fans. We are launching game one in our community with a driveway (socially distanced) viewing for a bunch of the families. Should be fun. It is nice to have something to look forward to finally! Good luck to both teams, but I'll be yelling my Go, Jets Go! I look forward to a great series and appreciate that the fans on both sides are good folks, no 'Nucks or Oiler fans!

May the best team win for sure. But then go on to do some serious damage.
We need a Canadian team to win this regardless and I'd love it to be the Flames as this year's bloody gong show needs a silver cupped lining.

If the Flames aren't the ones winning it, I don't care if the cup ever comes back to Canada

For our American friends, NBCSN will be broadcasting this series.

Pretty rare for them to pick up an all Canadian match up.

Cool, I wonder who will be calling the games? Forslund? Emrick? I know Cuthbert used to do it for MSNBC but now he's doing the Flames series for Sportsnet.

Francis confirms that the "home" game presentations will be used for all the games: https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...ome-away-home/

Just before the Calgary Flames open their five-game qualifying series with the Winnipeg Jets, the lads in red will be welcomed to the ice at Rogers Place by an enthusiastic introduction from Saddledome stadium announcer, Beesley.
With Flames organist Willy Joosen providing the backdrop, Canadian country music star George Canyon will subsequently belt out the national anthem, as he has the past six years in Calgary.
None of the three Saddledome staples will actually be in Edmonton, as the trio recorded their respective parts from home studios during the NHL’s pause.
|
Games 1, 2, and 5 will be Calgary home games, 3 & 4 will be Winnipeg.
I guess that means we'll have to wait until Game 3 of the Oilers-Hawks series to hear Chelsea Dagger.

Chelsea Dagger generally irritates the hell out of me, but I must say I look forward to hearing it over and over again in Edmonton's home arena.

Through the remaining six days, the splits are two games, one game, two, two, two, one. If these series all go the full five games—which seems like a pretty good bet to me—that's 15 GAMES in nine days. I have to think that would be exhausting.

I just watched The Hockey Guy's series preview. It sure feels like Winnipeg is the sexy pick in this one. I like the Flames's chances.

The first time anyone has ever used the words "Winnipeg" and "sexy" in the same sentence.
