I think they'd sell him for a dollar if someone would take him right now. Who can even afford £375K a week for a goalie? Especially when most of the big clubs have established goalies. Might be another Sanchez situation where they have to loan him out and eat half (or more) of his wages.

Keep him and hendo on team next year, get him working with a sports psychologist, he has some kind of the yips, let him build up his confidence again

Just two years removed from, winning his 5th consecutive PFA keeper of the year.

The problem again is there is no market for a goalie earning more than double what the next highest paid goalie earns. No one is taking a flier on him at that money and hoping it works out. The richest clubs are basically set at goalie too. Just another example of a terrible contract handed out by United. I'm sure they don't want to give him away, but I'm also sure that if Henderson is the man going forward they want De Gea's contract off the books. United aren't oil rich, they're debt rich. Not as easy for them to just let him earn #1 in the world money to be a Cup goalie.

Chelsea are the only ones looking, really. And I imagine Chelsea has about as much appetite as paying for De Gea as United have selling him to a team they're competing for European spots with.

I think De Gea has simply become too comfortable. Once the Real chance was gone and he got that new contract, his form took a dive. Probably also didn't help that there have been changes and a bit of drama when it comes to the goalie coaches. Having Henderson breathe down his neck could be good for him, I highly doubt he wants to be on the bench all the time. The sad thing here is that there's excellent competition at the club already, with Romero being a superb backup ... and he really didn't deserve to be dropped yesterday, he's been rock solid in the cup matches and in the EL. Deserves more credit and more trust from Solskjaer, and I certainly hope he'll play all the remaining EL matches.

The Athletic has a solid article out today, where the current top two clubs and their managers had similar, contentious goalkeeper decisions to make.

Klopp, with Lloris & Mignolet, and Pep with Hart.

They ultimately made the hard, yet accurate decision in acquiring the keepers most akin to their standards.

with all due respect, but comparing De Gea to those laughing stocks is a bit of a stretch. Yes, he's been on the decline, that's obvious to anyone ... but he was still the best goalkeeper in the world only a couple of years ago. Comparing him to Karius, Mignolet and Hart is a bit harsh.

What a weird take. That’s not the intent of the article, but the managers goalkeeping decisions.

But if you’re going to read into like that, de Gea has never been even top 2 or even 3 in the prem, whilst OGS has been managing. OGS of course, may not have been looking for a replacement as aggressively as the other two, fortunate in that Henderson has fallen into his lap.

well I didn't see the article. I thought the argument is "Klopp had to ditch Karius and Mignolet and Pep had to ditch Hart, now OGS has to ditch De Gea", and if that's the argument, I just think we're talking apples and oranges here. Even with a shaky De Gea, United has conceded only 35 goals this season, which is the second best record in the league (tied with City and Sheffield). Even a shaky De Gea is better than that lot ever was (save for Hart, who was decent for a couple of seasons). He cost them yesterday, there's no doubt about it. And he'll have to raise his game, especially with Henderson waiting in the wings. But getting rid of him will be difficult, given his contract ... add Covid and the fact that most big clubs are set at the position, and you've pretty much got an unmovable contract on your hands.

Ideally, Henderson comes in and performs well, forcing Solskjaers hands. But you never know, the pressure at United is a lot bigger than the one at Sheffield.

I think with De Gea they'll do what did with Sanchez, loan him out somewhere and eat a big chunk of wages. If he can regain form he becomes easier to sell, and if Henderson struggles you can always bring De Gea back.

We don’t want to risk a lost season, by relying on a new English keeper that collapses under the pressure like Ben Foster did 10 years ago.

They’ll loan out Romero.

The last time, de Gea was challenged by Lindegaard, he rose to the challenge and quickly rose to be the best in the world. (With Neuer).

This also allows Henderson to step in, and allow him to play for United, while sharing the pressures. To really see, what United have in him.

Play the hot hand, until one mistake, and roll with the other. Prevent stagnation with the other, in FA & Caribao.
