Is there legit reason? seems strange that a blue city and blue state would be pushing so early. I mean, most areas are really torn over this decision and most I believe will go 50/50.

This is so insane. It's the middle of a pandemic and in the US specifically, numbers are shooting back up with states hitting new highs in positive COVID-19 cases and the President is tweeting out pictures of himself posing with beans.

Asked about President Donald Trump's message to parents as some schools opt to go fully online in the coming weeks, McEnany said "the president has said unmistakably that he wants schools to open."

"And I was just in the Oval talking to him about that," she said. "When he says open, he means open in full, kids being able to attend each and every day in their school. The science should not stand in the way of this."

A Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday that showed former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee, up 15 points also showed a majority of voters disapprove of Trump's handling of school reopenings.

The survey showed that 61 percent of voters disapproved of Trump's handling of schools, with only 29 percent approving. On whether schools will be safe to send students to in the fall, 62 percent said they feel it will be unsafe, compared to 31 percent who believe schools will be safe.

"The president and his administration are messing with the health of our children," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told "State of the Union" on Sunday. "We all want our children to go back to school. Teachers do. Parents do. And children do. But they must go back safely."

The Republicans are obsessed with the economy and re-opening. They don't care about kids going back to school, they only care about people going back to work which cannot happen unless kids go back to school. School is just a warehouse to hold kids so that parents can work 8 hours a day. As if the Us school system teaches anything. This is the main difference between kids in the classroom and kids learning at home, along with lazy teachers who can't make online lessons.

They are obsessed with the unemployment rate, even during a ####ing pandemic when high unemployment is a good thing as people stay home. Trump should cut more checks, it might be the only thing that saves him now, but republicans think cutting checks causes laziness because again they are obsessed with the unemployment rate and not receiving handouts. Who gives a crap now if the unemployment rate goes up from 15% to 20% as long as people are surviving. The republicans will never give up the notion of people shouldn't be getting handouts and should pull up their boot straps, Even during a pandemic!

Do we care about each other or not?

Personally, I think not. And the end result of that will be widespread and immense societal and national collapse in the end. It’s simply a time question now.

I am not one to really defend anything the Trump does with regards to this pandemic but I do think the way that quote from the press secretary isn't really being portrayed as intended.

Did she say that exact quote, yes 100% The subsequent video and explanation, rationale and context of that full video is also important. If you read the NBC article, if you watch the video and if you look at other sources and reporting from MSM sites you will see that it's not really as brutal as that headline appears.

I don't think the Trump administration, any of the 50 states, Canada or many other countries have much in the way of a proper plan with regards to schools and what to do long term. This goes from top medical officials, top healthcare political players, top healthcare providers, politicians, teachers, unions, school workers and everybody else.

Having schools closed for a really long period and by that I mean another school year or more really isn't the answer I don't think. Everybody is looking out for their own interests and its causing a collision course. I don't have many answers myself but some of the things I am thinking about as someone who doesn't even have children is

How are school aged children from 5-18 years old going to physically distance, wear masks, practice proper hygiene and everything else? We can't get a majority of adults 18-100 to do any of these things?

Technology might make distance learning possible for some but not all. How many computers, tablets, phones etc do we need? Who's paying for all of this? Who's paying for added internet packages? Tech Support? What about low income people?

Who is going to pay for child care expenses, meals, parent these children and everything else associated with this nightmare we are living? A lot of children in the USA eat breakfast and lunch at school as part of school programs. Now all of a sudden all the increased cost of EVERYTHING like utilities, food, technology is being born by the parents.

If and when the schools start, how much can we really demand of the teachers and staff? Are we increasing their pay and if so, how much? We can't expect these people do be super human and put their lives on the line, keep our children safe, babysit our children with mask and distance requirements etc.

We got to all start working together, stop criticizing everybody and all working together. Not everything being said by everybody will be perfect, we all know that Trump, the USA, Trudeau, Canada, Kenney and everybody else have made a million mistakes.

Let's all try and find the best tasting sh** sandwich and try to survive. Trump wanting to open schools isn't the greatest idea during this cluster **** but I don't think opened strip clubs are the smartest idea either and I love a good lappy and a pair of D cups

I think that's slightly too easy an answer. It's not that all Americans, or even the majority of Americans, don't care about others. The problem is that the ones with the lion's share of the power in this country are the minority that absolutely care about no one but themselves.
