I absolutely agree, terrible signing and provided very little on the score sheet.
However, James as a person is a different story. I am a volunteer with an initiative called 'Powerplay'. James provided a lot for support for the program while he was in Calgary. He gave his time, donated several signed jerseys, many of his lower bowl tickets etc.
To many of the kids, who would never of had the opportunity to experience any kind of hockey, he was their hero.
"This free, weekly drop-in program engages 70 – 100 youth, ages six to 17, from October to March each year, and gives them the opportunity to learn how to skate while interacting with Calgary Police officers in a safe and supportive environment. Officers coach participants on the ice, and off the ice, police officers, CPS civilians and members of the community, volunteer their time to help kids with fitting equipment, lacing skates, snack preparation and clean up. Hockey equipment is donated and remains at the arena for youth to borrow while they skate. Power Play provides Calgary’s vulnerable youth with healthy skate-related activities for the critical after-school hours – the time youth are most likely to be tempted by high-risk, criminal behaviour. Attendance in this program has been used by Youth Probation, and the Calgary Youth Justice Committees as a mandated consequence. Youth who have been referred by Calgary Youth Justice have continued in the program after their mandated hours have been completed."
