Washington Football Team to Change Name

Multiple news sources reporting the Washington NFL team will change their name and logo.
	Quote:

		| The N.F.L. team in Washington announced Monday that it would drop its logo and “Redskins” from its name, yielding to sponsors and Native American activists who have long criticized it as a racist slur.
The team, one of the oldest in the N.F.L., did not announce a new name on Monday as it continues a review to evaluate possibilities.

About time. Out of all the names based on Native American ‘imagery”, this was one of the worst culprits. We probably see other teams (Indians, Blackhawks, Braves, Eskimos) follow suit.

Bunch of tone deaf, out of touch clowns. No way they touch that name until Nike, Amazon etc threatened to not sell their merchandise.
Normally I'd give it up for the right decision even if late, but this isn't that. This was a pure financial decision forced upon them when they had a thousand chances prior to do the right thing, which they will now shamelessly portray as a heartfelt, sensitive decision.

Apparently a realtor trademarked tons of possible names for the team:https://twitter.com/user/status/1282669101597503495

I suspect the same thing would happen here.

Nah, Snyder isn't playing that card. He made no secret he didn't want to change the name, and the only statement was the name is changing.

I understand the others, but isn’t Blackhawks named after a reputed native warrior?

I could see them keeping the name but changing the logo.

The fact that he bulk registered makes it pretty unlikely he'll win a challenge against any single name. Pretty tough to argue intent to use when you blanket file a ton of names. He probably basically shot himself in the foot.

Also, imo they should forgo a name and just call themselves Washington.
