Did Robert Svehla ever suit up for the Flames in a pre-season game?

What was the deal with Stralman anyway? I'm having a hard time remembering. We signed Bouwmeester a few weeks before and the D core was looking pretty good (Gio, Bouw, Phaneuf, Regehr, White, Pardy, Sarich, Johnson, Staios). Was he just a casualty of not having a spot? He was looking pretty good in his sophomore season with the Leafs (13pts in 38gp).

Yes. I don't believe he was going to make the team out of camp.

I recall it was a battle for the last D spot between him and Staffan Kronwall. Kronwall got it and we traded Stralman. Stralman wasn’t signed after his second season with CBJ and I believe if I recall correctly, he signed a PTO with NJD, then signed with NYR after the training camp and broke out

There was also a belief he refused to play in the AHL and was going to go back to Europe.

I didn't miss any, but Michael Grabners early career is like a blur by now. Here he is on the Canucks, yikes!
he also spent a preseason with the Panthers, but I couldn't even find a picture of that. Also forgot he was on the Leafs for a year.

He also would have required waivers to be sent to the AHL. There's a good chance he would have been claimed and the Flames would have ended up with nothing to show for him. At least by trading him, they got a draft pick out of it.
It's similar to why the Leafs traded Colborne to Calgary a couple years later.

And now Grabner is with Phoenix, a fact I forget like five times a year.

Dominik Hasek for Chicago and Ottawa are weird ones for me as well.

Hasek was involved in the first NHL shootout as a Sen, in which he stopped Eric Lindros and Jason Allison in their only seasons as Leafs. Definitely a weird shootout.
I often forget that Devin Setoguchi was a thing here. Vinny Lecavalier in LA is another odd one, as are Iginla and Bishop there.

Sarich became such a heart and soul Flame in his time here (and stuck around after retirement), I often forget he was on the wrong side in 2004 and was in Tampa longer than Calgary.
During Iggy's retirement ceremony, it took me a while to figure out why Sarich was shaking his head when the crowd starting chanting "It was in!", until I remembered.
