How would you rate the 2007 Honda Civic Sedan?

It is a car it is going to depreciate... There may only be 500 in canada but there are likely 50,000 around the world. To put things into perspective. there are more cars sold in LA than in all of Canada.

You may do a little better that a regular Legacy but that is about it.

Great thread. I work as a car salesman myself and I was a little shocked (in a good way) about how a car dealership worked when I first started. The place I work at doesn't seem to be like a lot of the bad experiences people seem to be having. I would say that 5 of our 6 full time sales reps are good solid guys that maintain a high level of integrity in our jobs and we get it from our sales manager and business manager. We're not there trying to screw people over.

The main thing I was suprised about was the markup in the vehicles. We have about a $2200 markup on a $40 000 vehicle at my dealership but some customers want to come in, get $3000 off the sticker price, free oil chages for the life of the vehicle and a free set of winter tires..... we have to just walk them out the door.

If a customer is reasonable we usually have no trouble splitting the markup with them down the middle.... or giving oil changes and tires. One or the other though.

TimSJ, from what I recall I think there were only 5000 sold in the USA as well. No idea how many were sold in Japan/Korea/Australia.

I'm not worried about it at all. I absolutely love the car.

Anybody watch King of Cars with the "Chopper" and "Blue Genie"?? I actually do like watching the show. You get to see the dealership from the other side.

so here is my question. When we financed our car it looks like they included the interest that we would be paying in the final price on the bill of sale

ie. cost of car 26,000 finance interest 2,500 Total bill 28,500.

Is this normal practice and if so our loan is open so we can make payments on it at anytime, are we able to get some of that interest charge back because we will have paid the car off sooner then the term and thus not borrowed the money as long?

I am not sure.. i have not seen the interest shown on the bill of sale The cost of borrowing should be shown onthe loan document though.

What do you think of programs like the Royal Banks buy back financing program...(they establish a price of the car(y) 2,3,4,5 years in the future, subtract that from the cost of the car and you only pay interest on the difference, at the end of the term you either get $Y back from the bank, buy the car from them for $Y or refinance $Y). Seems like a better financing option event if the interest rate is high (~prime + 1).

Also, it is very interesting to use the Royal Bank tool to see what the expected depreciation is on certain models, for example Volvo's hold their value really well, Mazda's not so much

It is funny that using this financial instrument if you borrow $X to buy a car, your monthly payments are less for a volvo than for a dodge (because the Volvo will be worth more at the end).

The balloon finaincing programs are a great way to get your payments down. You are paying interest on the balloon as well though not just on the portion that you are paying down. Generally the amounts that they set for the balloon is the same as the residual value on the same vehilce on a lease +/- 5%.

Personally i think a lease i a better deal. with most balloon finaincing (not too sure on the RBC buyback plan) you are still ultimatly on the hook for the balance at the end. Plus on the finance you are paying interest on the tax whereas on a lease you are paying the tax on the payment.

Honda CRV or Toyota Rav-4? What's the better one? Can't decide which one better.......I think the CRV looks nicer, but my husband says the Rav-4 is supposed to be better otherwise. He's also concerned that the CRV looks "gay". Any insight? I just bought the 2007 Civic Sedan (EX) and I like them Hondas,so I may be biased.

I would say that they are both pretty high on the "gay" meter.

Really though they are basically built to be eachother.. splitting hairs to say one is better than the other. jsut a personal preference i guess.

My wife has a Rav4 with the V6. Zero complaints about that vehichle as it has more than enough power and still gets very good fuel mileage. Considering the price difference between the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder it was a no brainer. But we also have to drive over mountain passes a couple times a year and lead footed me needs a vehichle that can blow by 10 cars when I do get a passing lane on a hill.

My $0.02 is that the CRV is quite gutless vs the V-6 Rav4...

I was surprised that the V-6 RAV 4 out-accelerated a MDX and CX-7 (with better fuel economy no less), but had relatively mushy handling.

The all time gayest car has gotta be the probe...just on name alone

New question....what's about the same price as a CRV or a RAV4 that's an SUV that's MANLY and good on gas mileage and all that other stuff? I know diddly about cars..I can admit it

Nissan makes some decent SUV's, the most comparable to the CRV/RAV is IMO the X-trail which is a decent little unit, may be a little too soccer mom for you though, pathfinder and X-terra are decent but more truck-like

The new 2007 mitsubishi outlander sounds like it will be decent, not much more manly than the CRV/RAV

Mazda CX-7/Acura RDX are pretty cool...pricey though

The Acura MDX is a nice ride, you can find them used easily and a bonus is that since they are manufactured in Canada, you can import one from the US and not have to pay the 6% duty.

My overall choice would actually be the Subaru Forester XT, almost as big as many of the smaller SUV's and is F.A.S.T. reliable, great resale value and fun to drive. Plus you can get it in 5-speed (manly factor), which is hard to get in a decent SUV (the only others I can think of are the BMW X3 and X5). To bad it is kinda homely looking...

I live in the US, so don't have to worry about importing anything.......I will check out the Acura MDX though I'm sure my husband is goin to say it's too pricey. We'll also check out the Forester that you mentioned......it's hard cuz we need to find something that BOTH of us like and will want to drive that has the right price...less than about $35,000 US.
