The Wild feels like the natural partner for this one. But given they are playing each other in the play in round (could be bad blood coming out of that), and that scout who had beef with the Canucks ended up in Minny it may not be so straightforward.

It's a really hard trade to evaluate. IMO for the trade to make sense for both teams:
a) Gaudreau has to be a clear, sizable upgrade on the best player Calgary receives in the deal, in terms of asset quality, player quality, and likely both
b) the pieces Calgary receives have to come from an area of depth for the team receiving Gaudreau
Gaudreau is clearly a large upgrade on Reinhart as a player. But as an asset? I think they're roughly similar. Two years until UFA versus unsigned RFA status is a big difference.
And, even worse, Buffalo has an absolutely pitiful forward prospect pipeline. It might be the worst in the league. Cozens is easily their best prospect and Reinhart is one of about four above-average forwards on that team. It's not good.
So does it make sense for Buffalo? I would say no.

What makes you think Gaudreau won't sign in Buffalo? Unless the Flyers do some serious cap dumping they won't have the money.

Boeser is someone I have wanted on the flames for a while, but there's 0 chance the canucks trade him to us. I wonder if we can work a three way for him somehow.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Boeser
Tkachuk-Lindholm-Mangiapane
Dube-Backlund-Ryan
That's a pretty strong top 9.

I think Buffalo has as good a chance as any to sign Johnny. I feel like his top choice would be the Rangers (like every US born player and seemingly any college or high end free agent) but then I think all of the eastern US teams have a shot of keeping him long term.
They get him playing with Eichel for a couple years and they develop chemistry they could easily be the best scoring pair in the league.
I don’t think there is a chance in hell they could get all of Reinhart, Cozens and the 8th pick. I like all 3 of those assets though and would hope we could get 2 (that might even be wishful thinking)

I don't know if he would or he wouldn't, but would Buffalo take that chance?

Maybe Gaudreau is not the player but no doubt Buffalo is looking to make a move to improve this offseason. If they don’t aggressively try to improve the team around Eichel they might as well trade him. It is clear he put the organization on notice so staying the course is not an option.
Gaudreau may be the best player available via trade this offseason.

You have to give something up to get him though.
Which begs the question: what does a Johnny for Boeser trade look like?

It looks like garbage. I would puke my guts off watching Johnny in a Canucks uniform

Doubt its possible. If Johnny doesn't want to be in Calgary why would Vancouver be of interest for him? Vancouver would be looking to dump salary and Johnny would be an extra $900K to the budget. I don't see how anything is possible with a direct trade. It would have to be a multi-team deal and Vancouver kept in the dark with Boesner going to Calgary.

Can anyone remind me that if teams can make trades right now? If so, until when?
I thought teams can make trades right now until the playoffs are over...

Not that I think there is any chance of a trade like this, but it isn't up to Johnny.
As for salary, for a trade between these teams, more salary would have to be coming this way, no question.

Literally the only time trades cannot be made is during a roster freeze, which only occur over Christmas and I think the all-star weekend. Teams can still make trades after the trade deadline, but any acquired players would be ineligible for the postseason.

I dont like this as it may lessen the need for buffalo to overpay us for johnny and i really want cozens.
Risto for boeser would be a hilarious fail though.

I wonder if Arizona would move Nick Schmaltz for Johnny. Now there's a guy I like. Uber skilled, RHS, signed long-term.

Would you do Hanifin for Boeser? Saves them cap space, they are in need of D. We get our Right shot RW (I think he’s a RW)
Move Lindholm to second line Centre.
And I think Hanifin is a better fit than Ristolinan because of cap hits.

One for one?
That seems pretty one-sided!
Arizona would need to add something
Johnny's only 2 years older, and his worst season is better than Schmaltz best season.
