Can you just imagine stacking your PP with Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Hall, Mony/Lindholm, Gio when you need a tying goal? If we can move Tkachuk to the RW to make it work I like what Hall can bring to the fold offensively.
I would give that team a look before entertaining Gaudreau offers.

I mean 5 on 5, as we would have three top six LWs. Actually Gaudreau on RW might be better as he has had success at the position (some may argue thats where he played his best pre-NHL).

Adding Hall and holding onto Gaudreau would potentially give us 2 very good PP units.

Hall actually plays right side on the PP, so we’re all set!

Adding Hall and retaining Gaudreau with the cap levelling off would likely mean cutting ties with a few vet D and putting guys like Valimaki and Kylington in their place.
Since I think they're more than serviceable at this level already I'd be fine with that. But treliving seems to want to hang on to a few of these bottom pairing vets who have more experience but are hardly an upgrade.
Gustafsson, Stone and Forbort ahead of the kids is honestly overkill.
You only need one of those guys and thats either Gus or Forbort I'd say.

Courtier or Konecny would be dream targets in a Gaudreau trade. Unfortunately, they probably keep both.
Does Boston have any more players with 'character' flaws that are young and we can get on the cheap...

I think it would mean moving Lindholm to C and trading one of Backlund or Ryan.
As for defense, I can't disagree but Stone was never really ahead of anyone, the only defensemen he played more than were call-ups and deadline acquisitions and he was only re-signed due to Valimaki's injury. Then with injuries to Brodie and Hamonic, it made sense to add Gus and Forbort. With everyone healthy it looks like overkill, but at the time it was not.

My ideal trade is Seth Jones for Gaudreau straight up.

It's probably a fair trade. I am not sure if Columbus would be interested, but I would do it (not that I am eager to trade Gaudreau, but signing Hall would help).

Aside from a top 6 C, a stud #1 Dman is probably the biggest need on the roster to be honest. Gio is already showing signs of slowing down, and while Hanifin and Andersson are both very good young Dmen I'm not really sold on their offensive potential.
The Flames really struggled offensively from the blue line this season.
If they pulled off a Gaudreau for Jones swap the next step IMO would be to trade Hanifin for a top 6 C or RW if possible.

I still wouldn't trade Hanifin, not until Valimaki or Kylington show they can play top 4.

I would, BUT, I'd look to bring in a vet lefty to fill the gap for the time being. Maybe get Forbort on a one year show me deal
Giordano - Jones
Forbort - Andersson
Valimaki - XXXX
Kylington and Mackey also in the mix
Plus whatever forward you were able to get for Hanifin.

He’s a #1 centre who plays a 200 foot game you build a SC team around. He’s also signed nicely for 2 years with no thought he wants to leave when he’s a UFA.
Calgary is only likely thinking of moving Johnny because of thoughts he’s gone in 2 years.
Philly has zero motivation to move their #1 centre. Calgary’s has some motivation to move Johnny.

That or Hanifin-Jones becomes your top pairing.
Talking about Jones had me thinking about the player he was traded for. I could see the Preds making Johansen available in trade. I don’t see the right piece to move from Calgary however.

Ryan Johansen could be a great add, he could also be a terrible one.
The guy is so inconsistent and I'm not sure he's worth an $8 million AAV.
He's big, he's skilled, he's a C, he's he's a right hand shot, he's offensively gifted, he's strong on face offs, but he rarely seems to put it all together and really compete.
Fits the roster like a glove though.

And keep Hanifin. Have to look to the future now.
Jones, Hanifin, Andersson, Valimaki, possibly Mackey would be your defense core. That's a pretty good one with room to grow.

Johansen would be terrible because of his contract alone,. He's a $6 million player making $8 million for 5 more years. Then to top it off he's coming off the worst season of his career since his sophomore season.
