Why do they want Monahan and Hanifin if they're trading Eichel?
This is why the teams are not good trading partners for forwards unless one of them is selling / blowing it up.

I disagree that the return I suggested isn't a strong one.
That's a 7th overall from last year who is a very high end C prospect
That's the 8th overall from the upcoming draft
That's a late 1st round pick from 2017 who as a RHD and still just 21 has already played over 100 NHL games and looked good playing 17-18 minutes per night.
Maybe I'm out to lunch, but I figure that's a stellar return. Yes, it weakens the roster immediately, but it's a futures package so that's not a surprise. Maybe you can get the Sabres to add another piece like Mittelstadt.

I followed up the return clarifying that it is the wrong type of trade this team needs to be making. I don’t have near the same opinion as you do on Jokiharju. 17-18 minutes on a terrible team not the most enticing.
Monahan was a 6th pick with 7 22+ goal seasons which includes 3 30+ and one season of 82pts. Hanifin has multiple 30pt seasons and been in the league since he was 18.
At the end of the day I don’t see how that trade makes sense unless they blow the team up which we know won’t happen.

Cozens + 8th is what it would take to get Monahan.
Arizona recently traded DeAngelo and a 7th overall to get Raanta and Stepan. Now Cozens is better than DeAngelo from a prospect perspective and the 8th is likely about on-par with the 7th - but Monahan >> Raanta + Stepan.
Tossing in Hanifin makes it brutal for Calgary.
Monahan for Cozens + 8th? Seems fair. That’s the cost of pushing fast forward, and removing risk from the draft/prospect.
Calgary only goes down that route if they don’t believe Monahan is part of the solution - and given that he’s an “A” and the team thinks highly of the man, I very much doubt Calgary trades Monahan (ever).
Gaudreau to Buffalo makes since if they aren’t involving Cozens because he’s needed to slot behind Eichel.
To Buffalo: Gaudreau
To Calgary: Reinhart + 8th Overall
That’s not bad value on either side - but the big sticker is that 90+ point forwards just don’t get traded during prime years. A premium would likely have to be paid. Is Reinhart + the 8th enough? Unsure.
From Buffalo’s perspective - I don’t think Reinhart will be back in Buffalo after getting fed up with the fans in the media (when his frustration should have been pointed at management).

I don’t see any plausible scenario where the Flames trade Monahan unless it is for a similarly aged C. In other words, it’s not happening.

I agree guys, I don't see Monahan traded either.
Was just saying he's probably Buffalo's #1 trade target from the Flames forward group, which makes them bad trade partners on that front.

If the Flames get the 1 OA..
Take Lafreniere, trade Johnny to Phi for their 1st and Patrick
Lafreniere-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Patrick-Mangiapane
Bennett-Backlund-Dube
Lucic-Ryan-RW
Yup. That'll do.

I still think Johnny makes sense for them so long as Cozens isn’t involved. Jack needs his Kane, and that’s what Johnny brings. Cozens then fits in as the key piece on line 2.

It’d be so nice to win that lottery. I’d follow that up with:
To Buffalo: Gaudreau
To Calgary: 8th Overall, 38th Overall, 2021 1st round pick (lottery protected).
Hopefully draft Marco Rossi.
Sign Hall.
Hall - Monahan - Lindholm
Mangiapane - Backlund - Tkachuk
Lafreniere - Rossi - Bennett
Lucic - Ryan - Dube

Yeah, but I really don't want to trade them Johnny unless Cozens is part of the return haha.

Nope Patrick is brutal. Might be one of the weakest returns I have read for Gaudreau this side of HF

I don't know dammage, Patrick hasn't played a game in over a full year, and even then he was playing 15~ minutes a game bouncing between wing and C. Hard to pencil him straight into the Flames 2C spot.
Plus the pick is like 27th overall.
That's not a return I would like to see for Johnny.

I do agree that Buffalo needs may not be aligned with what many, myself included, are letting on. JG likely isn’t their first target.
You’re right they need a 2C more than JG, I think. They could also use a legitimate 1G. Risto for Matt Murray? Who knows who might be available to fit their C needs. Doubt many called Trocheck getting dealt this to line last year. In any event, they have a new GM and $35 in cap space, they can be bold. It wouldn’t shock me if they were one of the busiest teams this offseason.

This return of 8th and Reinhart would set the Flames top 6 wings up for several years if they sign Hall
Hall-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Reinhart
I would even consider trying to trade up to get Rossi for hopefully a center of the future to replace Backlund in a couple years and maybe overtake Monahan down the road.

Nope. You're flat-out wrong, just like Max Domi
Cool story. But hey, you keep dreaming up equally garbage trade scenarios at10 times the rate of what I post .
I take Patrick 10 times out of ten over Cozens all things being equal. Don't really care what anyone else thinks of the player.

People say Buffalo needs a top 6 C but isn’t that going to be Cozens?

Okay clearly you took some offense to that wasn’t my intent but whatever you’re sensitive. Ya my trade proposals may be way off or out to lunch but whatever people will rip them.
Nolan Patrick has batted injuries since he was 16 and just missed a full year of playing due to migraine headaches. I don’t see him developing into near the player he was capable of when he was taken 2nd overall.
The pick is late 20’s when do the Flames ever hit on those players?
You could literally be getting an Iginla like return for Gaudreau.

Way too much of a risk.
Get Sanheim, Myers, or Frost included. Patrick would’ve been an absolute gem but I would want another 1st or a good prospect in addition to Patrick and Philly’s 1st.

Let's say the Flames knew they were going to be able to sign Hall...traded for negotiating rights before the draft or something.
Would the following return be acceptable for Johnny?
Montour
Mittelstadt
8th overall
38th overall
Rounds out the top 4 D with a 26 year old legit top 4 RH Dman
Adds a 21 year old depth C with potential upside
Gives a shot at maybe Perfetti or Rossi, if not then Quinn, Holtz, Sanderson or Askarov
Another good pick early in round 2
Yay or nay?

Fair, if it takes more than thats fine. But IMO, Patrick hasn't even hit his stride yet, and he will.
