New hypothetical!
Flames end up winning the weird draft lottery and get the first overall pick.
Would you trade that pick to the Senators for Brady Tkachuk?

No, the Flames need a dominant center not more wingers.

Agreed
I wonder what you could get from LA to flip 2 for 1, with the assumption the Kings then take Lafreniere and Flames would take Byfield.

Why wouldn't you want Lafreniere?

Flames get embarrassingly swept by the Jets but get lotto luck and get first overall. The organization decides to blow the team up.
To Sens: Tkachuk+Bennett+Kylington+2nd
To Flames: 3rd overall and 5th overall
To Sabres: Gaudreau and Jankowski
To Flames: Reinhart and the 8th pick
Flames sign Hall, Pietrangelo, and Holtby
Flames draft Lafreniere, Byfield, Drysdale, Perfetti
Hall-Monahan-Lindholm
Lafreniere-Byfield-Reinhart
Dube-Backlund-Mangipane
Lucic-Ryan-Gawdin/Philips etc
Gio-Pietrangelo
Hanifin-Andersson
Valimaki-Gudas
Holtby
Rittich
Okay I am done dreaming

Haha, imagine a team picking 4 times out of the first 8 picks. That'd be something to see.
EDIT: And then signing the top free agent forward and dman shortly there after.

I actually think Byfield might end up being better.
He’s almost a year younger, and had just as impressive production as Lafreniere did this year.
He’s 6’4” , 214, is a great skater, and has amazing hands and playmaking skills. I don’t think Lafreniere’s total package is as impressive.
It’s honestly a package that hasn’t come around for a while...people I’ve seen him compared to most are Malkin and Thornton. I’ll take that every day of the week.
He’s probably going to end up in L.A and I think we are going to hate having to deal with him for the next 10 years (Plus LA is amassing quite the collection of young players).

If we lose our play in round, before the second lottery round would you trade our 1 in 8 chance at number one for Buffalos 8th overall choice? Gambling at its finest.

I might, but the difference between a player at 8 and a player at 15 is not a very big one. I would just keep the lottery pick.

So if this Byfield guy is available at 3, would you trade Ottawa Tkachuk for him?
Ottawa doesn't want to pay players, I get it, but I feel like this might be a little different having both Tkachuk brothers and a franchise like player, which may make them rethink this with them also choosing 5th overall.
I have no idea how good this guy is or what his ceiling is but in my opinion if he has first line center capabilities I would make that trade.

I made the point earlier that he put up 1.82ppg in his draft year, and I invite anyone to find a player coming out of Major Junior in the last decade at that age who's matched that. Lafrenniere is one, but Byfield is almost a full year younger than him. There's also McDavid, but Byfield even beats out McKinnon for draft year production-on a team with less talent to work with.
Edit:there's also Rossi.

Tkachuk is the guy you bring players in for, not move for other players IMO. I like Byfield just fine but I would not move chuckles.
I'm not even sure I take Byfield over Lafrenierre TBH. You can overhaul the roster easily with Lafrenierre. Move someone else for a Center.

Your Buffalo deal is an over pay and your Ottawa deal a large underpay. You’re the Ottawa Senators... you’re going to trade 2 of the top 5 players of a highly regarded draft class for Tkachuk and whatever the hell else?
Also think Gaudreau and Jankowski should command more than that return. Even though Jankowski adds potentially negative value to it.

I get what you're saying, but it's pretty hard to get a true #1C unless you draft that player. I'm not saying trade Tkachuk, but they would have to think about it...

Hey thanks, I have no idea how these guys look or are expected to do. Clearly they aren't on Matthews Eichel levels.
Thanks for the input I appreciate it.

Don't get me wrong, if the Flames won the 1st puck and took Byfield, I'd be pumped. Grabbing a top rated Center would be something not been done since Monahan. I don't even know why I wouldn't take Byfield over Lafrenierre honestly. I know Lafrenierre has Clutch vibes all around him.
Plus, it'd make a Johnny trade a very easy pill to swallow knowing you got the concensus #1 pick to replace him with.
Honestly I've spent so much time brushing up on players in the Flames realistic range I never really thought about the Byfields or Stutzles or Lafrenierres.

If we win number one overall, would you trade it to Ottawa for number 5 and their Tkachuk?

The team that gets the #1 pick gets the best player most likely, so I wouldn't do it.
