On hockeybuzz eklund thinks the Kings won first overall...
For anyone who likes to quote his rumors, he can't even report facts properly
This is a PR disaster for the league and it didn't need to happen, no reason to be the smartest guy in the room and make things so complicated. Team lucked out and got a chance at the cup they never would have, should have been more than enough to make up for not being in the lottery.

They've actually been hurt by the lottery more than the Flames have.
The Flames never win the lottery, but they rarely get passed by teams who won.
The Coyotes have had many opportunities to win lotteries, yet haven't. Plus they often get passed by other teams who did win the lottery (2018, 2016, 2015, to name a few).

McKenzie says Calgary will not be in phase 2 of the lottery if the return to play plan does not occur
News Update
Bob McKenzie
@TSNBobMcKenzie
If the 2019-20 Return to Play does not occur for any reason, the teams with the 8th to 15th lowest points percentage at the pause would equal shots (12.5 per cent) at getting the No. 1 overall pick. Keep in mind, though, not all those teams may not own their first-round pick.
Bob McKenzie
@TSNBobMcKenzie
It’s my understanding it’s the eight worst point percentages OUTSIDE of those teams that were in playoff positions based on point percentages at the pause. So VAN and CGY would have been in the playoffs, hence they would not be lottery teams.

That’s selective at its finest, honestly. If it comes to playoffs, they expand it to 24 teams, since the season was not complete. It should work the other way around as well meaning a “playoff spot” which means nothing for 2020, should not eliminate a team from contending for the #1 if the season is cancelled.
It should be a point % straight through. Stupid and inconsistent caveat.

In reality NHL should have just waited. And if the season didn’t resume all 31 teams should have had a chance in the lottery.
The playoff break point is irrelevant If there are no playoffs to be played.

Taylor Hall should just declare now he will sign with the Flames, and that of course would guarantee us #1

As long as it's not Deadmonton, I don't care who.

I just knew this was going to be a disaster like everything else the NHL does
They should just give the pick to Kevin Lowe

If its really rigged I see #1 going to the habs
Montreal plays Pittsburgh
Montreal loses to Pittsburgh
Lafreniere is from Quebec
2020 Draft is in Montreal
Dream come true for city, team and player

Re: the Flams:
If they beat WPG, they go to playoffs
If they lose to WPG, they get a 1-in-8 shot at 1st overall
If there's no playoffs, they draft 16th overall.

Well at least the fricken no goods won't have a shot at the first overall either if the play in gets cancelled.
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but it'd pretty funny for the Flames to win 1st overall when the consensus number one pick is a left winger.
Imagine signing Hall as speculated as well.
Gaudreau
Tkachuk
Hall
Lafreniere
Haha
I think I'd want them to take Byfield to be honest.

Man, you take Lafrenierre, trade Johnny for a package including a good young center and boom.
In reality though, Rodion Amirov is looking like a mighty fine pick down in the middle rounds now. I truly don't think Jarvis or Quin get out of the top 12.

If that was the scenario, I wouldn't mind trading down a spot.

If there's no playoffs, Winnipeg drafts after Calgary (17th, I believe) because they had a better points percentage.
