I always liked the Bar setup at the end of the rink in the ACC. I was hoping Calgary could do something similar.

I think it's pretty novel. Not to mention I'm sure there would be huge 4K TV screens to watch the actual game.

Sounds like you came up with the idea with how hard you’re selling it.
I can’t for the life of me come up with a viable payback business case for the cost of that. “It’s a cool idea” just doesn’t cut it.

I think the only thing you can really assume though is the upper level will likely suck in favor of luxury seating/lower bowl. Everything else is up in the air really.

That feels like a different topic.
Of course the upper bowl won't be as good as the lower bowl, that's standard.
I'm just saying it shouldn't take too long into meeting one for someone to say "so yeah you guys didn't put enough bathrooms in that ugly Edmonton building".
The next generation of anything always has the advantage of lessons learned from the previous.

Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta looks cool, but that project has it's share of legal fights going on because the roof on that had some serious problems. The design was extremely complex, and there are a lot of after the fact blaming of various parties for why it had issues. Be it design, or execution by the contractors building it.
I hope they can avoid this on the Calgary arena, the roof on an arena is far less area than a Football stadium, so hopefully they can do something interesting without it having a lot of after construction problems. No doubt what you see today will end up being scaled back due to other cost overruns that occur throughout the project.
But if they use the Falcons model of concession pricing....I think fans in Calgary would be ecstatic.

I'm sure there was envy amongst many Flames fans when the Oilers moved into a shiny new arena while the Flames continue to play in the Dome but the benefit of getting one later is that it will be more modern and one would hope the failures of Rogers Place will not be repeated.
I'm wondering if the the Flames will get the same handshake agreement from the NHL for a cupcake schedule to open the arena like the Oilers received.

It’s YOUR fault we don’t have a rink by now Muta. And you know it. And any design flaw is on you. On any building, in the city.

Now now, we can't let Bunk off the hook either. Chances are it will be him and his cronies in Civic Politics that will look at Edmonton's Valley Line LRT project and insist on having the exact same Project Agreement and specs for this arena because it's proven to be wildly successful at making sure nothing get's done on time or on budget.

Maybe, but I wouldn't automatically assume that the new Calgary building will be as bad as the new Edmonton building just because there will be a fixed total cost.
2 different ownerships with 2 very different partnerships with their municipal governments. The processes and decision making will be much different. I fully understand that revenue will be driving the bus, but there really is no reason to have an upper bowl as bad as Edmonton's. T-Mobile has a great upper bowl and I'm sure they also like revenue.

The only thing achieved by designing the upper bowl a la Rogers place is that you really get to show those tier 2 fans what you think of them!

It's not even that dumb. It's not like you'd be worried about catching the plays at the redline, but it might offer a 'video game' view looking to each goal. I'm sure they'd do TVs for when the play is anywhere else. I think the biggest limiting factor is it would have to be glassed in so you don't have beer and popcorn falling onto the ice surface.

I would hope that if they go with cool new arena concepts like the bridge seating to give you a more over the action view from up high, that it doesn't get scrapped like it did with Edmonton's. This new venue should be including new things that do work, and doesn't make the venue feel so dated so quickly.
HOK was part of Little Ceasers Arena, so they have the experience in doing it.
MSG also have had it since their renos in 2013.
Looking back at the Little Ceaser's photo, the seating does look pretty steep in the photos for both the lower, and upper bowls. With wanting to pack as much optimal seating and suites as you can, while not taking up too much arena squarefootage on the developed land, I think you could expect the same here for Calgary's.
I think Montreal's Bell Centre upper bowl is pretty steep too?

The only complaint I have about Little Caesars is that the gondola seating area creates restricted views for much of the second level seating on the sides, much like the press box blocks the view for fans in the PL sections at the Dome. Otherwise, one of my favourite arenas in the NHL.

Really hoping for an inverted bowl design as I think it would be innovative while not being gimmicky. Every upper bowl now is so far away from the action. Being the first would be cool too. I can’t see that design being any more expensive to build but I’m not an engineer/architect.

I had this idea for F1 racetracks while me and my buddy were stoned watching a race. A glass "bridge" style encasement that goes over the track with fine dining and high price point seating, while you watch the cars blaze by directly underneath.

I would think that Blank at the very least owes Atlanta patrons a good deal on concessions. It's crazy that the Falcons are on their 3rd football stadium in the
same timeline the Dome has been home to the Flames.
