His interview last night was in response to people like you accusing him of orchestrating a hoax. If people weren't filling up message boards and twitter with that garbage he wouldn't have had to do that.
Have you even watched his full interview? He talks about the positive response by NASCAR and the other drivers.

Is it white fragility to see someone stoke racial tensions for personal gain and be annoyed by it?

So let me clear on this. Like, crystal clear. My negative reaction to this guy was based entirely on his interview last night where he was stoking racial tensions for personal gain or to save face. That is the behaviour I compared to Smollett. At no point did I think , say, or claim he orchestrated this.

Here's my takeaway.
Debating whether the pulley was a noose or not due to the specific knot is like debating the difference between an assault rifle and an automatic rifle. You're bogging down in semantics versus the rhetoric symbolism that the argument is actually about.
Imagine the Klan burning a cross on your front lawn and having people say "hold on that's not a cross its a T". Like, missing the point entirely.
That said, as a layperson, having the pulley with handle like that makes sense to me. Its easier to grab and pull. Again, not knowing anything about NASCAR pit crewing why wouldn't more bays have this? Perhaps the rest are automatic, in which case why is this one not? I don't know.
But if it's the only one like this, the symbolism is there. Its undeniable, unless you want to argue the specific knot, but what reasonable person would see a lopped rope hanging from the ceiling and say hold on, let's see if the knot is tied right over left, or left over right, as one way is a noose and a jibberjabber knot"; or saying a noose requires rope and that pulled was made of cable. Would a reasonable person look at that and call it a noose? I'd say so.
NASCAR and the FBI investigated. As they should have.
They found the pulley was in the shape of a noose (even if it wasn't an actual noose) for some time and used ina professional way.
No racial attack was intended.
Good.
Thats like the best case scenario!

Fair enough. I don't think we're going to meet eye to eye on this, thank-you for responding though.

Did you read the transcript? Even though the FBI concluded it wasn't a hate crime and had been there long before and was a garage door rope, he kept insisting to Don Lemon "it's a noose" and "not used for garage doors that way" (paraphrasing that last one). Using racial tensions to save face or gain public favour is kind of exactly what Jussi Smolett did. Except of course Smollett literally set the entire thing up, where as in this case our friend Bubba Wallace stumbled into it.

I did not read the transcript. The transcript isn't really relevant to you doing exactly what you just claimed you didn't.
The Jussie Smolett situation is the Jussi Smolett situation because he orchestrated it. I mean come on. Everyone has bad takes now and then, but don't try to say now that you didn't say exactly what you said.

In this situation it's closer to a Church having a fire resulting in a burning cross unintentionally. Unfortunate, but it's not arguing the semantics of whether it's an automatic rifle or not, it's changing the entire intention.

Have you tried being sympathetic towards Bubba?
I mean after all the events of the past week (MAGAs going crazy about muh heritage and rights), the guy hears that there's noose in his garage. I'd lose my #### too.
And I'd still be upset about it even if that wasn't the intention. We all know the crazy MAGAs that Nascar attracts...

But.. nothing happened. I was very sympathetic when the noose was found and FBI came in. I was happy to see NASCAR support him even tho I dont like or follow NASCAR. I thought it was cool that drivers came to his side and stood with him.
What I don't like is when it was found to be nothing he kept suggesting there was something there that was still racist and awful. Thrilled he's backpeddling today, still a bad look yesterday. I can't fully grasp why that's controversial tbh.

Except he didn’t do that, that was your pretty ungenerous and silly interpretation of it, but it doesn’t make it true. It was never a bad look, he’s not back-pedalling.
What’s controversial is that you seem to have missed that his CNN interview was IN RESPONSE to people LIKE YOU who go around calling it a “Smollett situation.” It wasn’t a response to the FBI saying “no hate crime!” it was a defence of his integrity, because people like you had nothing better to do than demonise the guy and get upset because you didn’t like the fact that people called it a noose.
Trust me, you don’t have to tell people you can’t grasp it, that’s kind of your move. It’s just funny watching you pop in with these hot takes and spend the next couple hours awkwardly back-pedalling and stumbling over your own thoughts. But yeah, we know it’s because you don’t grasp these things, you don’t have to tell us, just put in your hot take, get your response, and keep it movin.

And Don Lemon really didn't help things. His questions were quite baity at times to get better quotes out of Bubba.

Don Lemon is pretty bad at his job. He always has predetermined narratives that he’s set on pushing during his time. It’s pretty annoying, and the hallmark of bad journalism. Lots of good reporters at CNN still, but he’s not one of them.

That isn't what he said at all, he didn't find it. NASCAR told him about it.
