Conroy reminds me of Rob Lowe’s character from Parks and Rec

I was going to say Chris Traeger as an alternative . Does anyone know who Cam Battley is? Conroy reminds me of Battley.

I have a feeling Eichel has asked for a trade, and this firing is possibly a response to that.

Why not? Is it because of his loquacious, garrulous persona that you don't see Conroy as a GM? It rather seems like he is highly respected in the League for his team-management skills—enough so to have garnered him consideration for top jobs already, and a general anticipation that he will one day fill a NHL GM opening.

I'm glad he didn't get that gig.

I want to see Conroy get a management job in the league, I think he'd do really well, but not with the Pegula shipwreck as his first GM job.

Strange, since they just restructure their minor league club, and it looked much better lately. Of course, stocking the minor league club has been a problem. Considering all of the picks that they had, the cupboards are really bare.

Well this is what you would call an organizational house cleaning. Not often you hear about pretty well the entire AHL staff being shown the door with the GM.

Anyone know if scout, Jeff Crisp (Terry's son), kept his job?

I don't follow Buffalo that closely, but a complete housecleaning might be a good thing.

Whether it was the scouting or the development team, the Sabre's have struggled to turn their non top 3 draft picks into effective NHL players.

In their last 3-4 drafts, its hard to find a player besides Dahlin to get excited about. Maybe Cozens as well. Their farm team is winning, but their top players seem to be journeyman / AHL vets.

The Sabres seem to be stuck in purgatory. They are not going to be bad enough to get a top 3 pick, but they don't have the depth to be a contending team.

Crazy to think the 2 biggest dumpster fires in hockey over the last 15 years started to really crater when the local billionaire bought the team.

Katz and Pegula brought huge wallets with a commitment to spend big every year and provide financial stability. Being in a small market that is music to the ears of the fanbase.

It was a complete disaster for both franchises who first tried to spend a ton of money on bad contracts and then go full tank for several years. Edmonton would still be wandering the desert if they didn’t win the McDavid lottery.

The Sabres just finished 25th. I know they just gave 24 teams a shot at the cup but that's a terrible finish in any other year. They are a perpetual lottery team getting great picks every year and not getting any better.

Eichel definitely requested a trade. This is a last ditch effort by the owners to try to keep him. If I'm a GM, coach or scout I'm increasingly uncomfortable with the power a young star player has over my employment status. I don't see it working this time. Depending on the return, this could be the best thing for both parties. The Sabres will be hard pressed to attract any managing, scouting or coaching talent any time soon, though.

This is less about Eichel and more about money. McKenzie's article on TSN says the Pegula's want to cut expenses deeply, and Botterill balked. If anything, it's the Skinner signing, and his subsequent flop, that cost Botterill the confidence of ownership. The team has been a huge money-sink for the Pegulas.

I would be willing to spend crazy for Eichel.

Monahan+Gaudreau+Hanifin+2020 1st for Eichel and Miller.

Yeah basically anything that doesn't fundamentally break the roster I'd be down for.

I mean, let's be real, Botterill should have been fired for the Skinner contract alone. That deal is going to be terrible in the short and long term.

Botterill got Skinner for a song, and then he puts up 40 goals in his contract year.

Hard to walk away from a 27 year old who just potted 40 goals and had chemistry with your superstar center, but max term, a $9 million cap hit and a full NMC for a winger who's career high was 63 points was definitely a huge, huge mistake.
