Yes, worked so well after Eric Garner after all, no one ever died under a mound of policeman being filmed saying 'I can't breathe' after that

That's impressive, but then you realize there probably will be hundreds of deaths in the coming weeks that are a result of that gathering alone, a percentage of those being of the ethnicities of the people they're protesting for.
The irony is staggering.
My friend who's kept himself isolated to his apartment since March out of concern for himself and his family went to a gathering yesterday.
He claimed that distancing would be implemented but somehow I don't believe that, going by all the photos of protests I've seen so far.
I mean if people want to feel a part of something, even at the risk of endangering lives, that's up to them.
You can be an advocate for all lives mattering in a number of ways that aren't so attention grabbing that respect the recommendations of medical officials, but it seems that people (especially young people) want to satisfy their social gathering withdrawal first and foremost.
Again, the right message, a good and necessary message to send, but a highly inappropriate time to do it in this way.

About as effective as the rioting after the Rodney King beating, and the killings of Freddy Gray and Micheal Brown.
I truly hope that these riots do put and end to police brutality but I'm highly doubtful, as history has shown us. I wish we knew what the answer is but clearly, rioting, looting and burning property does not have a track record of success. Lobbying government buildings, protesting outside police stations and media outlets, social media influences and corporations insisting on permanent change are likely to be most effective.

Haha, yep. I remember learning about all those history altering movements in high school. The one common denominator was always "not being too attention grabbing".

Well now - https://theappeal.org/minneapolis-ci...public-safety/
Quote:
On Sunday afternoon, a veto-proof majority of Minneapolis City Council members will announce their commitment to disbanding the city’s embattled police department, which has endured relentless criticism in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man, on May 25.
“We are here today because George Floyd was killed by the Minneapolis Police Department. We are also here because, here in Minneapolis and in cities across the United States, it is clear that our existing system of policing and public safety isn’t working for so many of our neighbors,” Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender said in a written statement Sunday. “Our efforts at incremental reform have failed.”
The City Council’s decision follows those of several other high-profile partners, including Minneapolis Public Schools, and the University of Minnesota, and Minneapolis Parks and Recreation, to sever longstanding ties with the MPD.
The announcement today also arrives after several members of the Council have expressed a complete loss of confidence in the Minneapolis Police Department.

Hmm, from the post above. Pretty obvious, timing wise that the dangerous unrest in the US following this death led to this happening.

It may not change a thing, that is a possibility, but if that's the case eventually the US will fall apart.
Black America has been protesting my whole life, damn near 60 years and they still barely are allowed to vote, peaceful protest thus far has done nothing, riots on the other hand have caused massive positive change, I don't like that fact but it doesn't stop it being a fact.

If nothing else we're getting great examples of vastly over-powered Unions insulating their members from all consequences for their actions.

Everyone supporting riots in this thread is just lip service. Nobody has any skin in the game. When I see a video of you burning down your house I’ll believe you actually are legit. Until then you’re just fine with other people losing their life’s work as long as you’re life stays intact.

Cool, when I see a video of you getting shot and killed by police I’ll believe you actually care about what’s happening. Until then you’re just fine with police murdering innocent people as long as your life stays intact.

Here's a Facebook post from a restaurant owner in Minneapolis whose business was burned during the riots. Is his opinion good enough for you? Does he have enough skin in the game?
