Logical, but can any North American sports leagues go ahead if there is widespread unrest across America this summer? Hopefully there is peace soon.

Let's be realistic, we've seen modern day unrest in the US, and even though this is much more pronounced, the chance this will be a hindrance in July is almost zero.

Hard not to expect that the officiating will be atrocious.

Yup...unless something monumental happens and martial law or something like it is invoked...whatever social unrest is going on will have no bearing on playing hockey in fan free arenas.

Without the home crowd influence it's possible that officiating may just be better.

I read or heard somewhere that German psychologists believed or proved that better referring occurs with no fans. There was concern about reopening the Bundesliga with no fans.
Even the most robotic referee will be swayed by crowds, consciously or subconsciously.

There is little doubt that officials are swayed by crowds as well as reputation of players/teams. This may benefit the Flames who are still climbing out of the officials dog house since the Wideman incident. Oilers and Canucks wont benefit from their crowds which are amongst the whiniest in the league.

The NBA is debating certain ways to provide top seeds with a replacement for home court advantage. An extra time out, an extra foul for one player, possession to start 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters. Teams transporting their own hardwood to Orlando.
What could any NHL options be? An extra timeout or challenge? They’ll get last change obviously so that’s something. My guess is that will be it.

The NHLs home ice advantage is already built into the game. Last change before the puck drop, as well as bench positioning.

Yeah I don't think there needs to be anything else. Extra timeouts or challenges is too heavy handed IMO.

Now that the no large crowds in the street has been thrown out:
1) will there be large outdoor screening areas
2) Peaceful Red mile marches of support for the Flames
3) will there be huge Vancouver style "protests" when a team is eliminated.

...my question as well. Unless he's bringing up certain benches don't have the space to allow the backup goalie to sit with the team?

How about broadcasting cheers and goalie taunts from the home team fans?

My guess on bench positioning is in some arenas I believe the visitors need to skate to the corner tunnel to get to the dressing room instead of the tunnel off the bench. Makes it sliightly tougher to deal with skate issues or getting things like stitches dealt with.

Yeah I don’t follow. I mentioned last change. I don’t know what else is built into the game as the long line change scenarios are same for both teams.

Give the higher seed 1 free Powerplay... they can use it anytime during the series except for OT. However, they can make a 5-4 become a 5-3.
