Don't escalate an already volatile situation. Be a professional and keep your temper in check. Don't pepper spray or shoot rubber bullets or beat someone with a baton because they told you to go eff yourself or called you a pig.
Don't tug a man's mask down and pepper spray him directly in the face. Don't shoot paint bullets at someone standing on their own property clearly posing no harm to you or the other 20-some officers tromping down the street. Don't pepper spray a member of the press in the face. Don't shoot rubber bullets at members of the press simply doing their jobs. Don't arrest members of the press who have every right to be there. Don't pepper spray people in when they are actively walking away from you and are clearly not a threat. Don't attempt to run protesters over with a giant SUV.
There are any number of things the police are supposed to do. Abusing their power is not one of those things.
These are the people we are supposed to entrust to enforce the rules of our society. When they are flagrantly ignoring those rules themselves, why should we respect them?

In many instances, the police are the aggressors and are the ones escalating. It’s hard to have sympathy for them when their tactics, somehow unintentionally coordinated country wide, have consisted of attacking innocent people, blinding journalists, attacking media, arresting media, attacking innocent bystanders, attacking peaceful protesters.

Shooting at that person in their doorway is all about them being unable to deal with someone not totally complying with their command, regardless of how much that person is of no impedance at all. It's ego.

... after asking her a dozen times over 15 seconds to step inside. How do they know she is not a threat??? Especially when she will not listen to their repeated requests to step inside and shut the door?
It’s literally impossible that someone is this ignorant. Stop trolling.

Please stop using the words asking and request incorrectly.

Well, I need to be that guy again. She was asked 12 times by my count over a span of 15 seconds to get inside and she refused to comply. If she would have stepped inside and shut the door nothing would have happened. Police officers have been shot and killed, run over by vehicles, been pelted with rocks and other objects, had fireworks thrown at them, been dragged down the street and beaten, and on and on. They have absolutely no way of knowing she is not armed or going to try and harm them in any other way. Failing to comply with simply being asked to step inside makes her a threat!
I completely agree with the peaceful protests before the curfews but it’s time that the chaos and anarchy comes to an end. It’s just got to stop. Ruining the livelihoods and futures of completely innocent business owners and their workers does absolutely nothing for the cause of racial profiling, injustice, and police brutality. Protest until the curfew, then get off the streets and let law enforcement weed out the anarchists and opportunists, then protest until the curfew ends the next day again. Once the anarchists are gone feel free to protest 24 hours a day until change is implemented. Protesting can and should keep going until change is implemented, the rioting and looting has gone on long enough. It needs to end sometime and that time is now.
If there is one thing I learned, and the George Floyd incident displays it perfectly, is that complying with the police is not a guarantee to keep you safe.
There is no wonder why people, especially black people, feel compelled to walk or run away. Honestly, if you are black and complying with the police, there is a chance that you are forfeiting your life or at the very least getting a beating. How do you roll the dice in that situation?

The only reason that an officer should make a demand in a situation like that is if there is either clear evidence of danger to the person or if that person is clearly a threat to others. Neither of those things were the case. The only people on that street in that moment were armed officers. There were no gunshots going off, there were clearly no people disturbing this residential neighborhood, there was absolutely zero clear or present danger. There is absolutely no reason for them to demand this person step inside their own home.
That entire thing is just a display of ego and a ridiculous grasp for power over others.

Don’t escalate a volatile situation, just stand idly by and watch cities being burned to the ground for another night.
The people calling them names and getting shot with rubber bullets and pepper spray are breaking the law by taking part in an unlawful assembly and being out after curfew.
How do they know the person standing on their own property and refusing to listen to their requests to step inside poses no threat to them? How do they know that???
People “actively walking away” who have been told to leave for hours and who are breaking the law just by being there!

Just as Acey, rightfully challenged my inaccurate statement, I'm doing the same. Cops shot? Cops Killed? Cops Runover?
My googlefu shows nothing. Cite it please.

I think we have a difference of opinion on who is escalating the situation.
The police are supposed to act professionally but there are several recent examples of them provoking people. They seem to want a fight more than the protesters. I guess it's easy when you are armed, wearing armor, and have your face covered. Many of them are overreaching their authority.

Does any culture change come from this? Even if it’s prolonged, what systemic, cultural changes come from this?
This is the same nation that stood silent when a bunch of affluent white kids in Sandy Hook were killed and that couldn’t reform systemic or cultural gun change.
On the verge of another four years of Trump, I’m not holding my breath.
Nothing. Nothing at all besides the destruction of mainly minority owned housing and businesses and we can repeat the cycle all over again. This all happened in 2014 in Ferguson with the same people here cheering it on. What “changes” occurred? Nothing. Everyone’s more interested in indulging their base emotions that the entire society needs to be torn down without engaging in any critical thinking on what they actually hope to accomplish. It’s all giving in to raw emotion and excusing any actions carried out in the name of that emotion no matter how ultimately destructive it is to society in general and minority communities specifically. The added element of this all occurring in the midst of a pandemic is another layer of ridiculous on top of the cake. Coronavirus was a big deal when it was people walking on a beach but when it’s thousands of people causing destruction in the streets of major cities it’s not a big deal anymore. Go figure.
This cop committed murder. I’m glad he’s getting charged as such. People in Minneapolis have every right to peacefully protest and hold their DA and police force accountable to charge this murderer to the highest degree possible and review the PD to weed out poor training, protocols, and cops. How that extends to people burning businesses and homes in Chicago LA or Nashville is beyond me.

This coming from the guy, who earlier, said he wished that the protesters could be bussed to rich, White neighbourhoods and riot there. Wow.
